The Production

Million Dollar Quartet retraces the fateful day on December 4, 1956 when four rock and
roll legends came together for an impromptu jam session at Sam Philips’ Sun Records
studio. It chronicles the legendary session of these innovators of rock and the music that
made history.
Versions available to preview: None. This is a new musical making its World Debut at Village
Theatre.
Production length: Approximately 90-minutes. Exact length to be determined.
Synopsis: On December 4, 1956, Sam Philips’ Sun Records studio served as the setting for one
of the greatest jam sessions in music history. With RCA breathing down his back to buy Sun
Records, Sam Phillips knows his recording stars are on the move and makes plans for a one-of-akind recording session. Beginning with fresh new piano sensation Jerry Lee Lewis, then later
joined by Carl Perkins guitar maven, followed by Johnny Cash dropping by and climaxing with
the final addition of Elvis Presley, the infamous Million Dollar Quartet was formed for that one
night only. Interlaced with several flashbacks, Sam Philips experiences the ups and downs of the
record business, and watches the boys he worked so hard to raise in the destructive industry fly
away from the nest.
Script Content Details
Please note: the following information contains plot spoilers.
Violence: Though there is friction between a couple of the characters, no violence ensues as they
remain dignified. Rather than use their fists, they use their words to wittingly oppose their issues
and opinions.
Sexual content: Minimal amount, yet there are occurrences of passionate kissing between Elvis
and his girlfriend. There are also various references of implied sexual activities between
characters, in both friendly joking circumstances and desirable ones, but there is no more than
kissing shown on stage.
Language: Slightly more than moderate amount of harsh language is in this production as the
rough rockers of the ‘50s leisurely converse. Words such as ‘hell’, damndest’ and even more
intense vocabulary is included as the members of the quartet argue and joke through their jam
session.
Substances:
Alcohol- There is no alcohol shown on stage, but there are a few references to having a
drink or partaking in social drinking.
Drugs- No drugs are used as part of the story.
