Teaching Notes How to use this resource This resource, Engaging with Poetry – odes, is designed to support the Digital Education Revolution – NSW (DER-NSW). The resources and tasks are aimed at supporting student use of laptops in both online and offline classroom environments. If you have difficulty viewing this resource on the laptop screens, you can switch your web browser to full screen mode. With your web browser open, press F11 to switch between normal and full screen mode. Explore This section links to the CLI resource Passionate Poetry where they can find out more information about the ode and discover in particular John Keats’ ode To Autumn. Your tasks Students can click on either the icons or the hyperlinked text to view each task in a pop-up window. 1 Students need to access the section on ‘Odes’ from CLI’s Passionate Poetry (NSW DET only). Here they will find information about odes. In the section titled To Autumn, they will find information about Keats and his poem. The task asks them to read To Autumn and then drag and drop callouts to annotate the poem. 2 Students need to access the section on Odes from CLI’s Passionate Poetry. They can choose another one of the odes presented here. They record a reading of the poem that conveys its meaning to the listener using Audacity on their laptops. As a group, the class can listen to the reading and discuss how well the meaning of the poem was conveyed. 3 Students can select a poem from the section on Odes in Passionate Poetry or they may choose a poem from one of the websites provided. They prepare a multimedia Engaging with Poetry – odes © NSW DET 2011 presentation on the poem of their choice using Microsoft PowerPoint or Adobe Presenter. Teaching resources TaLe Passionate Poetry (NSW DET only) has more information on the ode. You can access it on TaLe by typing in its title Passionate Poetry or by using the number 3155. One section of this resource is dedicated to the ode. Other resources This website has copies of Keats’ poetry. The ABC’s A Pod of Poets has Australian poetry and poetry readings.
