The Creator reigns supreme, and is higher than the angels All, in His spirit, will rise By His nearness, His life-giving breath flows through them. And they glory in His name From the moment of genesis, His creations grow, Captivating and more beautiful. El Norah, Alilah Traditional, before repetition of Amidah at Ne’ilah service ("God who does wondrous deeds"). Opening words and title of a liturgical hymn (piyyut), composed by Moses Ibn Ezra, which both Sephardim and Yemenite Jews recite before the Concluding (Ne'Ilah) Service on the Day of Atonement. It comprises eight stanzas, the initial Hebrew letters of which are an acronym of the author's name; the first stanza's fourth line is repeated throughout as a refrain. The text of this beautiful hymn conveys the worshiper's penitent trust in God "as the closing hour approaches," and the much-loved traditional melody sung by the entire congregation breathes a spirit of hope and optimism. Thanks to its emotive words and music, El Nora Alilah has recently been incorporated in the ritual of some Western Ashkenazi (Conservative) congregations for the Day of Atonement. Asher - 3/3/16 Page 13 of 33 National Havurah Institute 2010 The Art of Sepharedi Music Lyrics Sheet Because I guard the Sabbath, G-d guards me. It is a sign for eternity between Him and me. It is forbidden to seek to do regular things, Discussing only of what is nessicary, not words of business, not even words of politics. I study the Torah, and G-d makes me wise. Because I guard the Sabbath, G-d guards me. It is a sign for eternity between Him and me. On [Shabbat], I always find myself and my soul, Behold, for the first generation he gave it's holiness From the miraculous giving of bread, the double loaves, on Friday Thus on every Friday he doubles my portion. Because I guard the Sabbath, G-d guards me. It is a sign for eternity between Him and me. It is written in G-d's Torah, a portion to his priests For the table, the show bread is on it for him, Therefore, to make a fast on [Shabbat] is forbidden in accordance with his sages. Only on the day of atonement do I fast. Because I guard the Sabbath, G-d guards me. It is a sign for eternity between Him and me. It is a day of honor, it is a day of pleasure, Good bread and good wine, Meat and Fish, Mourners who are made to grieve on [Shabbat], cease Because it is a day of joy, and I am made joyful. Because I guard the Sabbath, G-d guards me. It is a sign for eternity between Him and me. He who labors on [Shabbat], destroy him to his end. Therefore I wash my heart like the covenant, And I pray to G-d, Night and Morning, The Additional prayer and also in the Afternoon, he answers me. NHI 2010 This sung reflects the custom that the bride is guided to the pre-nuptial ritual bath in a 'miqwe', where she is submerged, bathed, and dresses in a ceremony. The woman of the family accompany her, and the mothers of the bride and the groom are honored. Obviously only women participate this part that is celebrated with meals, sweets and songs like this one. - The song may be sung also at other occasions of the seven-day wedding celebrations. Your names will be unceasingly pleasant, Pause and rest on the Shabbat day. Seek my holy place and my sanctuary, And make for me a sign of salvation. Plant a branch in my vineyard, Heed the call of my nation. Work the wine-press in Batzrah, As well as Babylon the mighty city. Crush my oppressors with wrath, Hear my voice the day I call. God, give on the desert mountain Myrtle, cypress, fir, and pine, And for the careful and those who are warned, Give them peace flowing like a river. Crush my enemies, jealous God, With melting heart and grief, And we will open our mouths and fill them, With joyous song for You. Teach wisdom to your soul, And let it be a crown upon your head. Terach's wife was pregnant and each day he would ask her Why do you look so distraught? She already knew very well what she had. La mujer de Terach quedó preñada y de día en día le preguntava ¿De qué teneix la cara tan demudada? ella ya sabía el bien qué tenía. And after all is gone, He, the Awesome One, will reign alone. And He was, and He is, and He will be in splendor. And He is One, and there is no second, to compare to Him or be His equal. Without beginning, without end, to Him is the power and rulership. And He is my God and my living Redeemer, and the Rock of my fate in times of distress.
