*Concert Critique Form*
Your paper should include:
*Cover page- name, class, hour, date
* Critique- 2 pages minimum, typed, double spaced, size 12 font, free
of grammatical errors, no pen or pencil corrections.
* Program- from the show you attended
The critique itself should follow the format below and include the
information in order given:
*Introductory Paragraph- who performed (ex. CV Dance), concert title
(underlined), where you went, and when (date). **10 points
*Body- 5 separate dances (1 paragraph each) that discuss the following
topics, in the order given. Only discuss 1 topic for each dance so that you
may discuss each thoroughly. Give the title of the piece “in quotes”, in an
introductory sentence to the paragraph. ** 14 points each paragraph
** 1- Discuss in detail, lights, costumes, any props, set designs or
special effects and how they enhanced or distracted from the dance. Be
sure to relate them to the dance.
** 2- Name 3 elements of choreography used in the dance and give
specific movement examples to support your observation. Elements of
choreography include: Rhythm (pulse, duration, pattern, accent, tempo);
Space (direction, level, focus, pathway, shape, place, size) Force (suspend,
sustain, swing, collapse, percussive, and vibratory). Discuss at least one
component of each element, not just 3 force components.
** 3- Describe group formations and the use of stage space. Give
specific examples to support your observation. What effect do these have
on the dance?
** 4- Describe a dance that communicated an idea, evoked a thought,
or caused you to feel something. Give a detailed explanation of your thought
process as it related to the dance.
** 5- Describe a dance that utilized a Dance Form (theme and
variation, round, canon, ABA, Rondo, Ground Base). Give a detailed
explanation of the form and how it was used in the dance. What effect did it
have?
Conclusion/ Summary Paragraph- What was your overall opinion of the
concert? Give specific reason to support your reason. ** 10 points
