Katie was a detective in the little town of Owanda. She arrived ready for her day of work at the police station and couldn't. She spent the majority of her morning pushing papers around, and wrote a few parking tickets in the afternoon. About an hour before she was ready to leave for the day, the station got a call from the bank. It had just been held up and the thief got away with $1,000,000. She drove 15 minutes to get to the bank and began to interview witnesses, but it didn't help much. No one seemed to have seen anything - it all went "too fast". Some witnesses said the robber was tall, others said he was short. Some described him as lanky, while others believed he was a bit more round in the middle section. As Katie was walking out of the bank, the sheriff in charge of the town pulled up and stepped out of his car. She watched as he leaned up against the hood of the car, and then jumped away from it shaking his hand as if it had been burned. "Darn that's hot," he said as Katie strolled up to him. "How did the interviews go?" "Honestly sir, not great. No one was able to give a clear description of the suspect because it all happened so fast," she replied. "That doesn't surprise me. We don't have a lot of crime here, so people get mighty scared when something does happen. This robbery however, sounds like something Jason Scott would do. He was a small time petty thief awhile back, but word on the street is he's been bragging about setting his sights a little higher. Why don't you drive over to his place and poke around a bit." The sheriff gave Katie the address and she drove off to find his place. It was only a 5 minute drive, which was nice and convenient Katie thought. The crime had now happened hours ago, so chances are if Jason is guilty he's long gone, she thought to herself. However, as she pulled up, there was a man holding a young toddler standing in the driveway. Katie got out of her car and approached him. "Are you Jason Scott sir?" she asked. "Yes I am," he replied. "And this here is my son Skylar. What can I do for you?" "Well, a few hours ago there was a robbery over at the bank on Main St." Jason's jaw dropped in shock as he looked over at Katie, but he set Skylar down on the hood of his car and helped him to sit up. "We were wondering if you knew anything about the heist?" "No! I haven't heard anything about it. I actually just got home about 2 minutes before you pulled up. I was away on a business trip, but I missed this little guy so much that I decided to drive the 5 hours home this afternoon so I could see him again! I'm sorry I can't be more help." "That's fine. Thank you for your time Mr. Scott." Katie walked back to her car as Jason picked up Skylar who was pounding his hands on the car. Once in the car, Katie radioed the sheriff. "I'm going to need some backup sir. Jason Scott is definitely lying!" How did Katie know Jason Scott was lying to her?
