Forensic Scientist II – Forensic Biology The Columbus Police Crime Laboratory, an ASCLD/LAB-International, ISO 17025 accredited forensic laboratory, is currently accepting resumes and transcripts for Forensic Scientist II positions in Forensic Biology. The laboratory has recently expanded its DNA section and will soon be moving into a new crime laboratory facility. Education: Applicants must possess a bachelor's degree with significant coursework (21 semester or 32-quarter hours) in forensic science, chemistry, biology, or a closely related physical or natural science and must have successfully completed college courses (graduate or undergraduate level) totaling a minimum of nine cumulative semester hours covering the subject areas of genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology, as well as course work and/or training in statistics and population genetics. Experience: Applicants must have at least three years of experience performing forensic analysis of which at least two years consist of human-DNA experience as a qualified and proficiency tested DNA analyst in an accredited forensic laboratory testing and providing court testimony on biological evidence to include difficult samples and complex mixture interpretation. Applicants must have experience using robotic extraction methods (preferably Qiagen EZ1 Biorobots); 7500 quantifications (Quant Duo or Plexor HY); PCR; capillary electrophoresis (3130 or 3500); interpretation of DNA profiles (especially complex mixtures); report writing; and court testimony. Responsibilities include performing biological screening and complex DNA analysis on evidence from criminal investigations; preparing written reports of findings; performing quality assurance; and presenting oral testimony in court. The salary range for Forensic Scientist II is $56,804 – $77,126 plus benefits. This is a nonexempt (overtime eligible) position. The salary hiring point will be based on education, certification, and experience.
