Second Quarter Book Reports

Book Report #1: Movie Poster

After completing your book, you will create a movie poster for your book. Your poster must:

 have the title of your book.

 have the author of your book.

 be colorful.

 have a large illustration appropriate for the book you read.

 catch our attention.

 be your own unique design…it can’t be a copy of the book cover.

Remember, the point of movie posters is to attract people’s attention and make them want to go to the movie. Pretend your book is now a movie and create the best, attentiongrabbing poster you can. I will supply you with the type of paper I want you to use for this poster. When you are finished, your movie posters will be displayed.

***Book Report #1 is due by December 6, 2013.***

Book Report #2: Poetry Collection

After completing your book you will create a poetry collection. You will need to include these three poems:

1.

A

haiku

describing the setting of your book. A haiku is a traditional Japanese poem with exactly 3 lines and 17 syllables. Haikus frequently describe nature. Each line in the poem has a specific number of syllables.

1) Line 1 has 5 syllables

2) Line 2 has 7 syllables

3) Line 3 has 5 syllables

**Choose your words wisely because you only have a total of 17 syllables to describe when and where your story takes place.

2 . A

cinquain

to describe the main character in your book. Please use the following format to complete your cinquain.

1) Line 1: 1 word, name the character

2) Line 2: 2 words, adjectives to describe the character’s personality

3) Line 3: 3 words, 3 verbs that tell important actions the character did in the book

4) Line 4: 4 words, a 4 word phrase telling something important the character did in the book

5)

Line 5: 1 word, a noun that could replace the character’s name (for example, line 5 for me could be mother or teacher)

3 . An

acrostic

poem using the letters of the title of your book. To create this poem, write the title of your book vertically. Use each letter to start a line of the poem.

The focus of this poem will be to tell the main events of the book. Each line will be a complete sentence.

***Book Report #2 is due by January 10, 2014.***

Remember, book reports can be presented to the class early. Do not wait until the last day to present. No late book reports will be accepted.

You are free to choose any books that interest you as long as the sum of the pages for your two book reports equals at least 300 pages.
