SPEECH PLEASE CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY Speech by Edwin Low Director, SME Infocomm Enabler Division IDA Singapore Singapore 1000, SME 1000 & SI 100 Media Conference 9 February 2012 Friends from the media, Ladies and Gentlemen, We are encouraged that companies in the ICT Sector have put in a particularly strong performance in this year’s Singapore 1000 ranking. Among the Singapore 1000 ranked companies, there is a 25% increase in the number of infocomm companies -- from 32 to 40. Their combined revenue grew by 29.7 per cent to S$74.9 billion and their profits rose by 94.9 per cent to $13 billion. This bodes well for the Infocomm sector. It suggests that more companies are investing in IT. Page 1 of 2 Against the current economic backdrop of market uncertainty, rising costs and lower margins, it is imperative for companies to improve and enhance their competitiveness, by making more out of less. Many local SMEs that have adopted enterprise IT solutions or IT-enabled business process re-engineering found they were indeed able to improve their cost operating structure and become much more productive. To help SMEs with this transition, there are government assistance schemes such as IDA’s iSPRINT grant. Finally, I would like to congratulate this year’s award winners for their excellent performance in achieving sales and profit growth. With the new year in full swing, I hope infocomm technology continues to a have a place in the 2012 roadmap of these top performing companies. I will now hand you to Ms Khoo Wee Lin, Group Director from IE Singapore to say a few words. Page 2 of 2
