An exhibition on "Sun Yat-sen and Chinese Currency" was held in Guangzhou Sun Yat-sen
Memorial Hall on Dec. 22. The exhibition displayed bank notes issued in different periods by
15 banks with different editions and different face values as well as more than 40 kinds of
coins. Among these various types of currency is a bank note with face value of 6 billion,
which intrigued visitors.
Sun Yat-sen (1866 –1925) was a Chinese revolutionary and political leader. As the foremost
pioneer of Nationalist China, Sun is frequently referred to as the Founding Father of
Republican China.
Sun played an instrumental role in inspiring the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty, the last
imperial dynasty of China. Sun was the first provisional president when the Republic of China
(ROC) was founded in 1912 and later co-founded the Chinese National People's Party or
Kuomintang (KMT).
