Religious Education Policy.

Religious Education at St. Anne’s RC Primary School is governed by the Salford
Diocese.
Aims
To enable children to achieve their full potential in their study of Religious
Education
To support the Mission Statement of the school in communicating an understanding of the redeeming love of Jesus Christ, underpinning the ethos of the school and its nurturing role.
To help develop children’s own beliefs, values and attitudes through an exploration of Christ’s teachings as found in Scripture, the examination of religious language and symbolism, along with their shared human experience.
With emphasis on Roman Catholic beliefs and practices, to know the place significance of Christianity and other world religions in the contemporary world, in the surrounding wider and local communities, and within the
Parish.
To deliver Salford Diocesan recommended RE syllabus.
To support the Spiritual development of children of other Faiths
Teaching and Learning.
We aim for outstanding Teaching and Learning and follow the same guidelines as in our Teaching and Learning Policy for all subjects. This ensures that
Teachers use a variety of approaches when teaching RE, including work for the whole class, group and at an individual level when a specific need is identified.
Collaborative Learning, based on Kagan Structures, in mixed ability groups as well as ability groups where relevant provide opportunities for collaboration, discussion and creativity.
We plan for differentiation in a variety of ways, including: o Differentiated tasks o Scaffolding activities within a same class task o Differentiated questioning o Support from additional adults o Expectations and targets for different groups o High expectations for all children
Provision for children with Special Educational Needs is made where appropriate and children are supported, following IEPs.

Reporting
Written reports are given to parents at the end of the Autumn and Summer terms.
Two verbal reports are given at Parent’s Evenings in the Autumn and Spring terms.
School Development Plan.
An Action Plan is prepared annually for the School Improvement Plan including finance from the budget.
Inclusion and Equality
We strive to be an ‘inclusive school’. Underpinned by our Catholic ethos which provides welcome for all children and in line with our SEN Policy; Single Equality
Policy; Curriculum Statement and School Aims, all children at St. Anne’s are given full access to the curriculum. We aim that the variety of approaches to teaching and will meet the individual needs of all pupils irrespective of culture, religion, race, gender, age and ability.
We are committed to the principle that are all children are made in God’s image and should be given equality of opportunity to fulfil their potential whatever their gender, disability, cultural, ethnic, racial or religious background.
Our Single Equality Policy builds upon the Mission Statement, core values and ethos of the whole school community.

Role of the Subject Coordinator.
To formulate a policy and scheme of work and to ensure that this is followed by all teachers.
To advise and encourage the staff in planning and revising and to keep them abreast of new developments through INSET activities.
To keep personally up to date with current issues through INSET opportunities.
To monitor and maintain resources.
To liaise with the Governors.
To advise the Headteacher on developments needed to improve the attainments of the pupils in Religious Education.
Resources
Time
We allocate 10% of our curriculum teaching time to Religious Education.
We teach R.E. through distinct lessons according to the 10% allocation and also use cross curricular links to further develop and deepen children’s understanding.
We ensure that staff have the necessary resources available to provide good and outstanding teaching, including ICT resources. We use visits and our Parish Church to enhance the curriculum and we welcome visitors into school to support lessons.
