Brief Introduction
The department of stomatology has been a vital part of the xinqiao hospital and third military
medical university since 1950’s, and is authorized to offer master degree program of stomatology
by Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council since 1994. The department are the syndic
units of Chinese Stomatological Association and oral & maxillofacial trauma committee,
vice-chairman units of Chongqing Stomatological Association and Chinese Military
Stomatological Association. The department consists of a clinic of dentistry, a in-patient unit of
oral & maxillofacial surgery, a teaching lab and an experimental lab. There are 18 dental chairs
and 40 beds in the department. More than 25 staffs including 2 professors, 3 associate professors
and 6 lecturers and instructors work in dental clinic and in-patient unit, and provide medical
service covering dental care, conservative dentistry, prosthetics, orthdontics, periodonics, oral
mucosal diseases, cosmetics and oral & maxillofacial surgery for more than 20,000 patients every
year. 2 to 4 graduates will gain their Ph.D., DDS. or M.S. degrees, 8 to 12 residents will get
residency training program every year. The department teaching activities cover oral &
maxillofacial surgery, conservative dentistry, prosthetics, orthdontics. The department research
field mainly around oral and maxillofacial trauma, especially in war-wound and traffic accident
injury, tissue engineering of teeth, facial nerve repair and regeneration. Since 1980’s, more than
200 articles and 5 books wrote and edited by the department staff have been published and gain
good academic reputation.
Goals of Department
1. To have a high quality and effective educational program for medical Students, dentists, oral
and maxillofacial surgery residents and selected clinical and research fellows.
2. To provide high quality patient care and to develop and apply new and effective therapies for
comprehensive problems of the oral and maxillofacial region, including oral surgery, infection,
trauma and its emergency treatment, oncology, plastic and reconstructive surgery,
craniomaxillofacial surgery, orthognathic surgery, cosmetic surgery.
3. To provide comprehensive general dental care, orthodontic care, comprehensive prosthodontic
specialty care with dental implant.
4. To promote an internationally recognized oral and maxillofacial surgery advanced education
program, and build a reputation as a strong referral center of dental and oral & maxillifacial
surgical care for patients with primary, secondary and tertiary need.
5. To develop the ability of clinic and scientific research of dental and oral and maxillofacial
problem, and promote the academic and personal development of the faculty.
Faculty
1. Yinghui Tan, MD., DDS., PhD. , Professor and Chairman.
Dr. Tan is a Professor and Chairman of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the Department of
Stomatology, having joined the faculty at The Xingqiao Hospital Third Military Medical
University in 1983. He came from The Forth Military Medical University where he went to
School of Dentistry and trained in oral and maxillofacial surgery and gained his MD.,DDS., PhD.
Degrees in 1983, 1989 and 1997. He was a senior visiting scholar at the University of Texas
Dallas Southwestern Medical Center Oral & Maxilofacial Surgery between Jan 2, 2001 to Jan 25,
2002. He was named Chairman of Depatment of Stomatology of Xinqiao Hospital and promoted
to full Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in 1998. He is currently the syndics of Chinese
Stomatological Association and Oral & Maxillofacial Trauma Committee, Vice-Chairmans of The
Chongqing Stomatological Association and The Chinese Military Stomatological Association, and
on the Editorial Boards of Acta Academiae Medicinae Militaris Tertiae, Chongqing Medical
Journal.
Dr. Tan’s clinical interests are in oral & maxillofacial surgery, especially oral and maxillofacial
traumatology, dental/facial deformities, and head and neck oncology. His scientific research
interests are in maxillofacial traumatology, especially in war-wound and traffic accident injury,
tissue engineering of teeth, facial nerve repair and regeneration. He has joined 7 projects research
groups, authored over 50 scientific articles ( three of articles published in Journal of Oral &
Maxillofacial Surgery in 1991, 1998 and 2002 ) and 2 chapters in books, and received 10 awards
from State, Army, Sichuan province and Third Military Medical University scientific and
technological Committees for his research endeavors since 1988. He is a supervisor of PhD., DDS.
and MS. degrees students currently.
2. Zhongyu LI, MD., Professor and Past Chairman.
Dr. LI is a Professor and Past Chairman of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the Department of
Stomatology, having joined the faculty at The Xingqiao Hospital Third Military Medical
University in 1963. He came from The Beijing Medical University where he went to School of
Dentistry and gained his MD. degree. After joining the faculty at Third Military Medical
University/Xinqiao Hospital, Dr. Li spent his early years in create division of oral & maxillofacial
surgery and in-patient unit, continued as Chairman of Department of Stomatology for more than
20 years, and remains on the faculty to the present time as a Professor in Department of
Stomatology.
Dr. Li’s clinic and research interest centers around Head and Neck Oncology, Plastic &
Reconstructive Surgery and Traumatology of oral and maxillofacial region. He was the syndics of
The Chongqing Stomatological Association and The Chinese Military Stomatological Association,
and on the Editorial Boards of Acta Academiae Medicinae Militaris Tertiae, Chongqing Medical
Journal. He was a supervisor of DDS. and MS. degrees students, and have directed 5 students to
gain DDS. and MS. Degree. He has joined 5 projects research groups, authored over 40 scientific

books, and received 10 awards from Army, Sichuan province and Third Military Medical
University scientific and technological Committees for his research works.
3. Songbo QIU. MD.,DDS., Associate Professor and Associated
Chairman.
Dr. Qiu is an Associate Professor and Vice-Director of the Department of Stomatology, having
joined the faculty at The Xingqiao Hospital Third Military Medical University in 1985. He came
from The Forth Military Medical University where he went to School of Dentistry and completed
special training in orthodontics and prosthodontics and gained his MD.,DDS. Degrees in 1985 and
1995. He is currently the syndic of The Chongqing Stomatological Association.
Dr. Qiu’s clinical interests are in dentofacial deformities, esthetic dentistry, porcelain fused to
metal crown and bridge, and dental implantology. His scientific research interests are in the
regulatory effects of growth factors on alveolar bone remodeling and the biocompatibility of
dental metals and alloys. He has joined 4 projects research groups, authored 10 scientific articles
and 2 chapters in books.
4. Zumeng YA, MD., DDS., PhD., Associate Professor
Dr. Zumeng YA is an associate professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the Department
of Stomatology, having joined the faculty at The Xingqiao Hospital Third Military Medical
University in 1989. He graduated from The Peiking Union Medical University, where he had
studied on Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery for three years and gained his MD, PhD. in 2000. Dr.
YA has taken on the clinic and research work of Oral-Maxillofacial & Plastic-Reconstructive
Surgery for more than fourteen years. He having accumulated much experience by which he can
serve his patients satisfactorily.
Dr.YA’s scientific research interests are in neck & head reconstructive surgery, especially in the
treatment of facial nerve paralysis. He had worked as a presider in a National Nature Research
Project and a PLA Medical Project, and his 26 articles were published in medical journals.
5. Jianhua Wang, MD., DDS., Lecturer and Instructor
Dr. Wang is a Lecturer and Instructor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the Department of
Stomatology, having joined the faculty at The Xingqiao Hospital Third Military Medical
University in 1997. He gained his MD. and DDS. degrees from Third Military Medical University
in 1989 and 1997, and trained in general surgery residency program from 1989~1994 in military
321 hospital.
Dr. Wang’s clinic interests are in oral and maxillofacial traumatology, dental/facial deformities,
and head and neck oncology. He has published 5 scientific articles.
6. Gang Zhang, MD., DDS., Lecturer and Instructor
Dr. Zhang is a Lecturer and Instructor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the Department of
Stomatology, having joined the faculty at The Xingqiao Hospital Third Military Medical
University in 1995. He came from West China Medical University where he went to School of
Dentistry and trained in Stomatology and gained his MD.,DDS. Degrees in 1995 and 2002.
Dr. Tan’s clinical interests are in oral & maxillofacial surgery and oral mucosal diseases. His
scientific research interests are in oral mucosal diseases, He has published 5 scientific articles and
1 chapter in books up to now.
7. Fei HE, MD., DDS., PhD., Lecturer and Instructor
Dr. Fei HE is a Lecturer and Instructor of Oral Medicine in the Department of Stomatology,
having joined the faculty at The Xingqiao Hospital Third Military Medical University in 1998.
She graduated from Lanzhou Medical University where she was trained in the Department of
Stomatology and gained her MD. Degree in 1994. She continued her study at Third Military
Medical University and gained her DDS. in 2001. Now she is a Dr. candidate majoring in
Stomatology.
Dr. HE’s clinical interests are in dental caries and endodontics. Her scientific research interests are
in tissue engineering of teeth and dental pulp regeneration. She has published 5 scientific articles
up to now.
