Introduction to Culinary Arts DI Learning Plan Name of Activity: FCCLA Research Project Unit: 2 Course: Introduction to Culinary Arts Activity: Researching different FCCLA programs Standards/KuDos KNOW: Students will know the history of FCCLA. In addition students will know the mission, purpose, motto, colors, and official dress about FCCLA. UNDERSTAND: Students will have an understanding about how FCCLA promotes lifelong skills and responsibility for community service, development, and professional growth. BE ABLE TO DO: Students will be able to research FCCLA program, conferences, and community outreach to become knowledgeable about everything that FCCLA has to offer. Pre-Assessment/Formative Assessment Notes Teacher can start group discussion to get an understanding about what students know about FCCLA. Include questions such as: 1. What is the purpose of FCCLA? 2. What is the mission and motto of FCCLA and how may it apply or impact you personally as a leader in the community? 3. How does FCCLA promote growth and development of life skills? 4. Why is it important to participate in an extracurricular activity relevant to your job interest? Go through the FCCLA PowerPoint, FCCLA_Presentation.pptx, included in this activity before giving the students the research assignment. Students will identify three to five areas of FCCLA they want to learn more about and understand, such as leadership opportunities, membership, state leadership events, STAR events, various community service projects, region, state, and national offices, and chapter events. Students will research their desired topics and determine what is involved with each area and how they can become more involved and participate. Why is it important to participate in an extracurricular activity relevant to your job interest? 4. What is the most interesting thing you learned about FCCLA? 5. What is something that interests you in FCCLA? Post Assessment Teacher should encourage students to begin thinking about how they would like to get involved. This will be important for activity 2.2 when the students develop individual leadership plans. Teacher may want to collect each student’s presentation and research notes, and review blog posts and even respond to start a conversation about student comments.
