Proposed RMLL Awards By Terry Dokken 1. I propose that the RMLL incorporate an AWARDS system for the 2005 season and all subsequent seasons thereafter. 2. I propose that this awards system be used for the Jr. A/ Sr. B. league, the Jr. B. league and the Junior Tier II league. 3. I propose that all voting for player awards is done by the players of the respective league. a. No player can vote for a member of his/her team. He/she has to vote for a player from an opposing team. 4. The first award that I propose is a Player of the Month Award. a. The criteria for this award can be drawn up by the executive of the RMLL 5. I propose the following yearly awards: a. MVP b. Rookie of the Year c. Top Scorer (already exists) d. Top Defenseman e. Top Goaltender f. Top Graduating Player (Junior) g. Coach of the Year All of the above awards would be handed out for all three leagues with the exception of the Top Graduating Player, this award would be only for graduating juniors. 6. I propose that a 1st and 2nd All Star Team be selected from all three leagues. 7. I propose that all award winners receive a token of recognition and their name be permanently engraved on a plaque that will be displayed in an arena. a. To appease all three regions (Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary) I have two solutions as to who gets to display what awards. On a rotating basis each area would display either the Jr. A/Sr. B or Jr. B or Tier II Awards. The following year the awards are rotated as to allow every area to have all the awards over a 3-year period. OR The provincial champion of each league gets to display their leagues awards i.e.) Calgary Knights are the Jr. A/Sr. B champs they would display the wards for that league for that year. Funding The RMLL Awards 1. Each of the Annual Awards requires a plaque for the names to be engraved on. The cost of a large plaque would be approximately $150.00. Also there will be the cost of engraving the winners name on the plaque every year. I propose that engraving companies across Alberta be approached to donate one large plaque. On the plate that signifies what award it is the sponsor’s name can be added here as “Donated by”. This name can be left on there forever or for 10 years or whatever is decided. Part of the sponsorship is that very year the cost of engraving the winners name be covered by the sponsoring company. 2. The player of the Month Awards could be sponsored by sporting good stores and receive something lacrosse related i.e.) equipment bags, gloves, Under Armour…. 3. I propose that the Top Graduating Junior receive a ring signifying his years in the RMLL junior ranks. This would be something that this player will cherish for the rest of his life. Josten’s to be approached to sponsor this award. 4. If the RMLL wanted to become rally inventive then they could give all of the major award winners a ring. This is something that will be cherished as opposed to a plaque that gets lost or collects dust. 5. If the ring this is too much I propose that pewter mugs be given to all yearly award winners. Again get an engraving store to donate these every year.
