General information
The program “SlovoEd” is a multilingual dictionary for Windows Mobile Smartphone
2002/2003/2003SE/2005 operating systems. Advantages of the program are:
 Great number of word entries
 Low memory consumption
 The possibility to install several language pairs
 Convenient user interface
 Color formatting of word entries




Search history (last words that you searched), you can see any word from the history again at any
time
Transcription support (only in the “MultiLex” dictionaries)
The possibility to install “SlovoEd” to expansion cards
The possibility to save certain words on Flash Cards (a special method of learning new foreign
words) and then pass a Flash Cards Quiz.
High data compression ratio with a high access rate is available due to a special technology developed by
Paragon Software (SHDD) (http://www.penreader.com).
SlovoEd supports correct sorting order for each national language according to its alphabet. For example some
languages (Czech, Slovak, Hungarian and so on) have special characters and combinations of letters like
, which are considered as one letter.

Registration and demo version limitations
The more you use an unregistered dictionary, the more you see a message about its registration procedure. To
register your copy of the dictionary, enter your serial number in the dialog box Menu>Register.
Each installed dictionary should be registered with its own serial number. The serial number you will get after
buying the dictionary you want to use.
Besides, you can register your dictionary during the installation procedure in the following dialog box:

Installation
“SlovoEd” installation is executed from desktop PC. Check if Microsoft ActiveSync is installed on your
desktop PC. You need ActiveSync (v. 3.7.1 or higher)1 to connect your Pocket PC device with desktop PC.
You can read about the ActiveSync installation in the documentation to this program.
Installation process
To install the dictionary from desktop PC, you should do the following:
1. Connect your smartphone with desktop PC by cable. Start the ActiveSync program that provides
partnership between smartphone and desktop PC. When devices are connected the icon of connection on
desktop PC tray bar becomes rich green.
2. On desktop PC start the “SlovoEd” installation file by double click on it. The installation process will start
automatically on your desktop PC.
3. Follow the instructions of the installation program. During the installation process you can choose where
“SlovoEd” should be installed (on a memory card or in the main memory of your device).

4. When the installation is finished, your will find the “SlovoEd” icon in the Programs folder.
Installation of additional dictionary databases
You can install several different dictionary databases for the “SlovoEd” program. To do this you should run all
installation files of the dictionaries you want to install one after another. To install each dictionary you should
repeat the steps 1-3 of the installation procedure. You can choose dictionary location (memory card or main
memory) for each dictionary.
NOTE: The interface of the “SlovoEd” engine is available in English, Russian, German, Italian,
Spanish, Greek or French. You should choose one of these languages during the installation of the first
dictionary. During the installation of the next dictionary you do not need to reinstall the “SlovoEd”
engine. If you want to change the interface language, you should run the installation once again, put a
tick in the checkbox “Dictionary engine SlovoEd” and remove a tick from the checkbox of the dictionary
database.

NOTE: “SlovoEd” will show the list of dictionary words and translations correctly in spite of what
dictionary you have installed. But in some dictionaries you need a localization system to type words for
search. For entering Russian and Greek national symbols we recommend you to use our program
“InterKey”. “InterKey” will provide you with national onscreen layouts and allow you to switch quickly
and easily between different national layouts. You can read about this program here:

You can search a word by typing it in the edit field or by scrolling list of the dictionary words using a joystick.
Having pressed it, one can get the translation.
If you want to see the translation of any word from the translation field, move selection on this word and press
joystick. The dictionary will begin searching immediately. If the dictionary contains required word you will see
the appropriate translation.

Menu in the word list mode consists the following items:
Using the menu item “Change dictionary” you can choose any dictionary direction as an active one.

Having pressed the “Details” button you can see what dictionaries exactly are installed for the dictionary
direction. The “Activate/Deactivate” button allows you to choose several dictionaries that will be active and
set priorities for active dictionaries. Priorities are important if you have installed several dictionaries of the
same dictionary direction (for instance, several English-Russian dictionaries of different professional terms).
Several dictionaries of the same direction are poured together to one dictionary and if a looked for word
presents in several dictionaries at once, then after pressing the “Next” button you will get in order all
translations given by these dictionaries. If there are no more translations, pressing the “Next” button will give
you the further entry in the alphabetical order.
You need priorities to set in which order you will read translations of the same word from different dictionaries
of professional terms. An example of dictionaries priorities is shown with red digits in the picture below:
Using the menu item “Dictionaries info” you can get some information about dictionary databases, which are
currently available.

Using the menu item “Flash Card Quiz” you can start the quiz (read more detailed information about this
function in the chapter “How to learn new words using “SlovoEd””).
In the menu item “Register” you can register your dictionary (or some dictionaries one after another).
The menu item “About” informs you about the version of the program.
The menu item “Close” closes the program.
Menu in the translation field
If you are in the translation field, you can use the following menu items:
1. The menu item “History back” provides you with fast access to the previous dictionary entry.
2. The menu item “Add Flash Card” gives you a convenient and quick way of learning new words. This
feature allows you to add new words to Flash Cards and pass a quiz on them (read more detailed
information about this function in the chapter “How to learn new words using “SlovoEd””).
3. If you have already added several new words to Flash Cards, you can try to pass a quiz on these new
words. To start the quiz you should choose the menu item “Flash Cards Quiz” (read more detailed
information about this function in the chapter “How to learn new words using “SlovoEd””).

“SlovoEd” has a special feature, which gives you a convenient and quick way of learning new words. This
feature allows you to add new words to Flash Cards and pass a quiz on them. If you are looking at the
translation of the word and you want to learn it, just do the following: open the menu and choose the menu item
Add Flash Card. Add other words you want to learn to Flash Cards in the same way.
If you have already added several new words to Flash Cards, you can try to pass a quiz on these new words. To
start the quiz you should choose the menu item Flash Cards Quiz. The quiz will go on in the following way:
one of the words added to Flash Cards will be shown to you.
You should recall the translation of the word. Then you should check if you gave the correct translation (just
press at the Translate button). You will see the correct translation of the word. Two buttons appear in the
window: Right and Wrong. Tap one of these buttons so that the program could save the result.
When you have finished answering all test questions, you will see statistics: the number of the right and the
wrong answers.

Later on start the test again. On the basis of statistics the program will decide what words you have already
learned. The more you give the right translation of the certain word, the less you will be asked to translate this
word. You can delete a Flash Card, which has bothered you, using the menu item Delete Card.
Uninstallation
1. On your device open Programs/Settings/Remove programs.
2. Choose the SlovoEd components for deleting and press joystick.
