Mention the Deliverables you wish to contribute from the Memorandum of Understanding
D.1.2, D.2.1, D.3.1
4./ Deliverables:
Mention the results you will share with the Action
1. Comparison of water vapour profiles and column water vapour from A-TRAIN’s sensors to
radiosounding data
2. Analysis of influence of water vapour on climate change in regional scale using RegCM
numerical model
3. Analysis of variability and transport processes of water vapour over Central Europe with
use of observations and numerical modeling
5./ Timetable:
Provide the timing of your activities with respect to the Action's timetable
1. Y1-Y4
2. Y1-Y3
3. Y1-Y4
6./ Manpower approximately dedicated to the Action:
Give the approximate manpower dedicated to the activities included in the action
1/4 manpower per year
7./ Assurance:
Mention the reasons why the proposed work will be done (sources of funding, availability of data /
tools, etc.)
The work will be funded by Ministry of Science and Higher Education (grant for
collaboration in international research program). Centre of Aerology conduct different water
vapour measurements (radiosoundings, CIMEL) so has direct access to necessary data.
8./ Foreseen collaboration:
Collaboration with other institutions involved in the Action is planned especially with those
performing water vapour measurements (e.g. FMI) and numerical climate modeling
9./ Previous experience:
Individual’s Name: dr. Adam Jaczewski
Give a brief resume of your experiences relevant for the COST action
My research recently focuses on variability of meteorological constituents in the atmosphere,
validation of satellite data and regional climate modeling. During my scientific career I have
visited Deutsches Zentrum fur Luft- und Raumfahrt (Gotingen, Germany) and participated in
field experiment conducted by Freie Universitat Berlin (Germany). Since 2003 I have been
working in Centre of Aerology at Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMWM).
I was in charge of long-term temperature changes over Poland from radiosonde measurements
since 1961. I participated in Nordic Ozone Group meetings in 2003 and 2004. 2003-2006 I
was member of COST723 Action (working group 1) and 2005-2006 member of Management
Committee of the Action. In the frame of the Action I was involved in homogenization of
water vapour data from RS-80 and RS-90 radiosondes, and validation of pressure,
temperature, water vapour and ozone profiles from Envisat with the profiles measured at three
polish stations. 2004-2005 I was EU visiting scientist at The Satellite Microwave
Atmospheric Sounding Group, Institute of Environmental Physics, University of Bremen,
Germany, at frame of Intra-European Marie-Curie Fellowship, where I studied distribution
and variability of water vapour concentrations on base of remote sensing and in-situ data
(SWORD project). The training and experience that the I have gained from my participation
in the project and COST Action 723 have contributed to the development of my career and
achievement of professional independence as a researcher. Nowadays I work in Centre of
Aerology at Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMWM). I am involved in
validation of SCIAMACHY’s and OMI’s column ozone by comparison with radiosounding
profiles and regional climate modelling – RegCM.
