Arena City Soccer Dodge Ball Rules

The Game:

The object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them " OUT ". This may be accomplished by:

1.

Hitting an opposing player with a LIVE thrown ball below the shoulders.

2.

Catching a LIVE ball thrown by your opponent before it touches the ground.

3.

Players that hit an opponent above the shoulders with a LIVE ball will be out.

4.

The Dodger is out if a thrown LIVE ball from the opposing team causes the dodger to drop the held ball as a result of being hit by a thrown ball.

5.

If a player goes over, leans over or steps over the center line, such players will be out.

6.

Players that step outside the boundary lines to make a throw are considered out

Definition: LIVE: A ball that has been thrown and has not touched anything, including the turf, another ball, another player, wall, fence or other object outside of the playing field.

Player that is hit by a ball, but a team mate catches the ball before it hits the turf, walls or other structures, both the player and the thrower are safe and remain on the court

Players may use a held ball to deflect a thrown ball. Player’s hands are part of the ball when holding a ball

Dodgers are safe if the ball hits you in the head, only if standing and not attempting to dodge the ball.

Players hit with a LIVE ball, must raise a hand above the head, indicating out and exit the court immediately to avoid conflict or interference with the match

Players that are out are not allowed to delay the game or to act as shields for teammates

Players may safely retrieve balls from inside the “goals” by raising a hand indicating such intent

Players must remain at least 3 feet off the court boundary lines (safety zone) when they are out , to avoid being mistaken for active players.

Players must remain in front of the defensive blue line throughout the game, except to dodge live balls, and to retrieve balls

Only registered players, staff and match monitors are allowed on the courts during games.

The Court:

The Arena will be divided and 2 courts will be created at each end. The courts will be known as Court 1, on the Home Side dugout, and Court 2, on the Away Side dugout.

Home teams will be listed first on the schedule and start the first game on the dugout side of court.

Teams will rotate after each game. A painted line will mark the side boundary-line. The surrounding arena walls, fence or nets are out of bounds but the ball can rebound into the court for really FAST play action. When the games begin, the clock will be started.

Once the games start, the Arena gate will be closed. No coolers or drinks will be allowed on the turf.

Dodgers may exit during half time break and between games.

Match Duration:

Match will have approximately 2 x 24 minutes half-periods in duration

The time clock will begin the first 24 minute period of each match.

Each team must line up 8 players on the end line.

6 balls are placed on the center line with 3 on each side.

At the beginning signal, each team must run to the center line and retrieve the 3 designated balls.

All balls must be taken back to the court before a ball can be thrown at an opponent.

Clock:

The Arena score board will keep the official time.

All games will start as scheduled or time will be shortened.

Two 24 minute halves will be played with a 5 minute half time break.

A minimum of 6 games must be played in the 48 minute time limit with a 5 minute limit per game. If the

5 minute limit expires then the team with the most players wins the game. If equal, the game is a tie.

No games will start with less then 1 minute on the clock, unless it is the second half and the game will decide a tie.

Teams:

Teams will consist of 12 to 16 registered players with at least 5 members being female for coed division.

Maximum of 20 players per roster are allowed for an additional fee.

7-8 members will start each game depending on the league and number of lady players. Coed divisions must have at least 1 players of each sex to start a game or they will play short.

Teams must have a minimum of 4 players to start a match with 1 being female. Teams will play short until a second female or male player arrives. Teams can play with more female players as long as 2 players are male at the start of the game. If only 1 male player, then team will play short until another male player arrives.

Substitutions are only after the game has ended and before the start of the next game.

Only for an injury can a player be substituted during a game.

Rosters will be frozen after the 3 rd week.

The Home team will be listed first on the schedule and will start on the dugout side of the assigned court.

Teams must play, at the least, 6 games during the time limit for a match to be official and the score recorded in the standings.

Teams can take a few minutes to sub between games.

Point System:

The point system will be two (2) points for a win, one (1) point for a tie, and zero (0) for a loss.

After the match time limit (two 24 minute halves) has expired, the team winning the most games will win the match. If the five (5) minute regulation time expires, the team with the most players on the court will win the game. If equal players remain, then the game is scored as a tie.

Overtime will not be used for regulation play but will for the play-offs.

When the 48 minute time is finished, the team with the most wins is declared the match winner. This will be noted in the standings for play-off placement.

Delay of Play:

Teams have 15 seconds to release a ball by throwing it at the opponent. If the team (s) takes longer, they will be warned of “Delay of Play”. If it continues, then the match monitor can penalize the team (s) by letting the team (s) either add a player or remove one of the team’s players, which ever is possible without ending the match. (Example…If delaying team has only 1 player left, then the team (s) must add a player for the penalty.)

Forfeits:

Teams must start the first game at the scheduled game time. A team must have 6 players to start a match with at least 1 being either female or male. Teams will play short if only 1 female or male player is on the court at game time. If a game is forfeited, the team will have 1 point deducted from the standings score and a $25 team fine. This $25 fine must be paid prior to the next scheduled game. If the fine doesn’t get paid by the 2 nd week from the forfeit, the team can be removed from the league.

Game Balls:

Arena City Soccer will supply the game balls. Six (6) balls will be used on each court. Sand Volley Balls will be used.

Team Captains:

Each team will have a team captain. The team captain must make sure the score is recorded correctly by signing the game score card at the end of the match. 6 or more games must be completed in the allotted time (2-24 minute halves with a half-time break) in order for a match to be complete. If weather causes the game to end, the score will be recorded only if a complete 24 minute period had been played and the next period had begun. If not a full 24 minutes period had been played, the match will be rescheduled and no score recorded. Captains need to contact teammates of game cancellations or rescheduled matches

Monitors:

Each match will have a paid match monitor to control and maintain order and keep score. In addition, teams will need to delegate 2 assistant monitors as spotters per night. This will be built into the schedule.

If a question about the rules needs a solution, then the match monitor will decide the out-come.

The match monitor will make sure you don’t delay the game.

Match monitors decisions are final and uncontested, unless rules were improperly interpreted or applied

Sportsmanship:

Teams need to display good sportsmanship during matches. No SMACK TALKING OR

PROFANITY WILL BE ALLOWED. This is a FOR FUN ADULT COED LEAGUE.

Monitors will be allowed to remove any player from the game for unsportsmanlike conduct. If players choose to continue to disrupt the game, then players will be issued a red card.

A red card means they must leave the facility immediately and will not be allowed to play the present match and the next scheduled match.

ASC will track all red cards. 2 red cards in one season will result in being kicked out of the league. 3 red cards will keep you from playing Arena Dodge Ball. No refund will be given.

Technical Misconduct

Unsportsmanlike like behavior, which includes the following but is not limited to:

Arguments with the match monitors.

Engages in abusive language or gesticulatory actions deemed offensive

Refusal to leave the court promptly when instructed by match monitors

Trash talking to an opponent, teammate or spectators

Excessive force usage during the game, intentionally hits a player to cause harm

The player being called for a technical will leave the game immediately

If the player being called for the Unsporting behavior was already out of the game or was called for refusing to leave the match then that team will play a player short for the next game.
