WATER AND WASTEWATER PLANNING ENGINEER #13344
ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
CAPITAL PLANNING AND DELIVERY BRANCH
Location: Newmarket, ON
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 37.5
Full-Time, Salary $47.64 - $ 51.79 per hour
Reporting to the Program Manager, Capital Planning, is responsible for planning and providing project
management services for a variety of projects, including the Water and Wastewater Master Plan Updates;
calibrating and updating the water and wastewater hydraulic models; analyzing different alternative
scenarios by computer models; preparing allocation reports; preparing water and wastewater inputs to
Development Charges By-law updates and to the development of financial agreements; preparing the
Water and Wastewater Supply and Demand Monitoring Report; doing development review for proposed
developments, and assisting the Manager in preparing project plans, project implementation, and
developing processes for on-going activities.
QUALIFICATIONS














Successful completion of a University Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or Applied Science.
Must be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated experience (inclusive of EIT experience) in municipal engineering
and hydraulic modelling for water and wastewater systems.
Strong knowledge of water and wastewater computer modelling (e.g. InfoWorks, InfoWater).
Strong knowledge of water treatment and distribution systems, wastewater collection and treatment
systems and their operations, complex hydraulic systems, pumping stations, piping, and valve design and
operations.
Knowledge of the planning process, land development procedures and the planning issues pertaining to
water and wastewater servicing.
Knowledge of stormwater management practices and technology, and hydrological and hydraulic
modelling.
Knowledge of solid waste management industry and related legislated policies and practices.
Demonstrated project management skills to lead a project or work group, organize numerous tasks, set
priorities and meet deadlines and possesses good understanding of process management.
Knowledge of relevant regulations, guidelines, procedures and applied engineering knowledge of
legislation, industry standards and new technologies.
Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service,
communication, team work, initiative/self-management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications and proficiency in word processing,
spreadsheet, database and presentation software.
Ability to travel to off-locations in a timely and efficient manner, as required.
Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required.
