Patient #1 Hair Analysis Report By: Dr. Farzin Farid Pharm.D, CNS General Rules about Hair Mineral Analysis: 1. You cannot change one mineral without affecting all others 2. A low value does not necessarily mean you need more of that mineral 3. A low value does not preclude the existence of hidden excess in the body 4. A high value does not necessarily mean you need less of that mineral 5. A high value does not necessarily mean you have enough of that mineral Sodium/Potassium Ratio (Na/K) This is the single most important ratio on the Hair Mineral Analysis. Sodium is a mineral that exists outside of your cells (extracellular) and potassium is a mineral that exists inside your cells (intracellular). The optimal electrical balance within all cells is maintained by normal values of these minerals. The ideal ratio is 2.5-6. Your current ratio is 2.09. This is a mildly low ratio. Possible implications include: Fatigue Glucose intolerance Liver, kidney, and cardiovascular stress Sodium/Magnesium Ratio (Na/Mg) This is specifically indicative of your adrenal activity on a cellular level. The ideal ratio is 4.17. The lower the ratio, the weaker the adrenals. Your current ratio is 3.83. This is a mildly low ratio. Possible implications include: Fatigue Low blood sugar Low blood pressure Low body temerature Sweet cravings Salt cravings Calcium/Potassium Ratio (Ca/K) This is specifically indicative of your thyroid activity on a cellular level. The ideal ratio is 4. The higher the ratio, the weaker the thyroid. Your current ratio is 6.18. This is a mildly elevated ratio. Possible implications include: Fatigue Low blood sugar Cravings for sweets Depression Oxidation Type This refers to the body’s ability to metabolize or “burn” foods efficiently to energy. This is derived in relation to ones Na/Mg and Ca/K ratios. Based on your current Hair Analysis Report, you are a mild Slow Oxidizer. Calcium/Magnesium Ratio (Ca/Mg) This is your sugar sensitivity ratio. The ideal ratio is 6.67. A ratio between 9.5-13.5 indicates that one’s intake is exceeding their body’s carbohydrate limit. Your current ratio is 11.33. This means it is helpful to cut down on your carbohydrate intake. Toxic Metals These refer to the values of Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Arsenic, and Aluminum in your body. Elevated levels may interfere with the body’s hormones, energy production, and structure. Low levels do not preclude the existence of hidden toxicity. The body must be able to detoxify these toxic metals correctly. Your current Mercury level of 0.083 is too high. It should ideally be between 0.015-0.03. Your current Arsenic level of 0.014 is a bit high. It should ideally be between 0.004-0.01. Impaired Elimination Often within a certain range if toxic metals, copper, iron, manganese, or nickel, are too low, it indicates impaired elimination of those minerals. Causes can include slow oxidation, Na/K ratio <1.5, and Phosphorus <13. Your current Copper level of 1.4 is a bit too low. It should ideally be 1.5 or above. This indicates difficulty eliminating copper from the body. Your current Cadmium level of 0.003 is a bit too low. A level <0.004 indicates the body is having difficulty eliminating cadmium. Your current Iron level of 1.1 is a bit too low. A level <1.2 indicates the body is having difficulty eliminating iron. Relationship between Conditions and Hair Results Conditions Hair Results Allergies/Sinusitis and Food Allergies This can be indicative of your mildly low Na/Mg ratio. When the body does not produce enough adrenal hormones, susceptibility to allergies increase *Other Causes: Low omega-3 intake and/or absorption. Excess intestinal permeability. Hair Thinning This can be indicative of the following: . 1. Copper imbalance: Your Na/K ratio is low, and your oxidation rate is slow. This causes a state of biounavailable copper. Copper is required for the formation of keratin, the material used to take make hair. 2. Low Thyroid: Your Ca/K ratio is high, which indicates a low thyroid effect. 3. Toxic Metals: Almost all toxic metals can contribute to hair loss by interfering with normal hair follicle structure. *Other Causes: 1. A very Yin state: This is based upon the Chinese balance of Yin and Yang. Your slow oxidation indicates a Yin state. This can cause hair follicles to fall out more easily. 2. Dehydration: Lack of optimal hydration can cause weakening of the hair follicles Recommendations 1. Eat a diet according to your metabolic type. In this case, as a slow oxidizer eat protein with every meal at least 3 times/day. Options include with each meal: 3 ounces of lean meat (Eat at least twice/day. These include chicken, beef, turkey, lamb, or salmon/sardines. Salmon/sardines should only be eaten 1-2 times/week. Baked, steamed, or broiled preferably in oil.) OR 2 tablespoons Almond Butter OR Raw Cheese: 2 ounces Vegetables: Fill 2/3 or more of your plate with mainly cooked vegetables. Eat this 3 times/day. Avoid: potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, and eggplants. Options include with each meal: Broccoli Cauliflower Cabbage Turnips Onions Garlic Frozen peas or green beans Carrots Celery Spinach And all others Fats: Have a minimum amount of fat. Options include: 1-2 tablespoons of Almond Butter/day OR 1-2 tablepoons of extra-virgin Olive Oil/day Avoid: Soda, candy, chocolate, ice cream, and other sugars and sweeteners. Raw honey is okay occasionally. Reduce: All fruit to a maximum of one piece or a few berries/day. All fruits are extremely Yin. 2. Avoid all grains, bread, yogurt, corn, pasta, milk, soybeans, bean sprouts, fava beans, gabanzo beans, black-eyed beans, pinto beans, and canned beans for the time being. Prepare beans and lentils by soaking overnight, 10 to 14 hrs. Change the water halfway throughout the soaking process (This will break down the starches). This is because they can all aggravate increased intestinal permeability. 3. Avoid sources of Mercury including: Fish such as: tuna, swordfish, tile fish, and sushi. Seafood such as: crabs, lobster, scallops, shellfish, and eel. Inorganic seeds & vegetables Impure Fish Oil supplements Avoid sources of Arsenic including: Inorganic foods Beer Table salt 4. Drink at least 8-12 cups of only Distilled water/day for 3 months. This water is highly hydrating, and will help bind with toxic metals and other toxins over time. Do not drink water within 10 minutes before eating or within 1 hr after eating. This will dilute your digestive juices. 5. General Supplementation: Kelp (Nature’s Way): 1-1-1 (Skip dinner dose if it makes you hyper) Vitamin D/K2 liquid (Thorne): Begin with 4 drops/day if vitamin D has never been tested. Emulsified Fish Oil (Pharmax): Take 1 teaspoon/day with food 6. Follow the nutritional balancing regimen to increase your oxidation rate: GB-3: 1-1-1 Megapan: 2-2-2 Endodren: 1-1-1 Limcomin: 2-2-2 Paramin: 1-1-1 *Start by taking only 1 tablet of each supplement for 1 week. Increase by 1 tablet each week until full dose of each supplement is reached. Take each dose more than 10 minutes before each meal. 7. Retest your hair in 3-4 months. This is to assess the progress of your hair mineral results. 8. Please contact me at farid@holisticpharmd.com to arrange a follow-up appointment within 6-8 weeks to assess your progress and to review your nutritional program.
