U.S. History Graduation Project
This project requires you to demonstrate your knowledge of U.S. History from 1877 to 2014.
You will need to recall information, summarize, and draw conclusions on the most important
events during this time period.
Your project will consist of three parts: a timeline, paragraphs for each events, and a paragraph
explaining the most significant event in U.S. History. The project spans the length of the U.S.
History course which is 1877-2014. You may focus on any events, people, places, or eras from
this time in History. Be sure to read all the instructions and include all parts of the project.
Task #1 –Timeline (1877-2014)
Create a 137 year timeline that clearly identifies significant events from 1877-2014. Identify and
label what you think are the 10 most important historical events that involved the United States
during the span of your timeline
Events may include anything that you consider significant. Some suggestions include: Westward
Expansion, Gilded Age, Progressivism, Jazz Age, 1920s, World War I, The Great Depression,
New Deal, World War II, The Cold War, Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam, Terrorist Attacks,
etc. These events may be generalized time periods as listed above or specific events from these
time periods such as the dropping of the atomic bomb, the election of a political candidate, or
death of a key person.
Task #2- Summary of Each Event
Write a one paragraph summary for each event and its importance to the United States. Your
paragraphs should include a specific dates and at least one significant person, place, and event
connected to each event on your timeline. You will also need to include: a quote from the time
period, an illustration of each event. (Student created illustration, political cartoon, photo copied
image, etc.)
Task #3- The Most Significant Event in American History
Based on the events you identified on your timeline, identify what you feel is the most
significant event, time period, or turning point in American History. Explain and justify why you
selected this event as the most significant.
Overall Project/ Presentation
The project should include your name and have a title. Use standard grammar, spelling, sentence
structure and punctuation. The presentation should be neat and organized.
