DELEGATION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION TO TURKEY AVRUPA BİRLİĞİ TÜRKİYE DELEGASYONU Press Release / Basın Duyurusu EU-Turkey Bosphorus Youth Conference 2012 Students from Turkey and the EU discuss shared values, cultural identity and their "Sense of Being European" on 27 November in Istanbul Students from all across Turkey and the EU will participate with the Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey, Ambassador Jean-Maurice Ripert, Member of the European Parliament Emine Bozkurt and representatives of media and academia in the EU/Turkey Bosphorus Youth Conference 2012. During the Conference, to be moderated by Fatih Türkmenoğlu, Turkish and European writers, directors, artists and academics will also engage in discussions with students. Ambassador Ripert, underlining the importance of events addressed to youth in promoting mutual understanding, dialogue and cooperation, said "The conference is about building networks and promoting mutual understanding. I am looking forward to a lively and informed debate between students, academics and other opinionshapers from all over Turkey and the EU”. The students participating in the conference have received training from famous percussionist Okay Temiz and his percussion school 'Rhythm Workshop/Ritim Atölyesi', and formed the largest ever rhythm group composed of university students from the EU and Turkey. The rhythm group will play together as part of the conference programme on 27 November. The Bosphorus Youth Conference 2012 is the final in a series of regional youth conferences organised by the EU Delegation and EU Information Centre Network in Izmir, Trabzon, Şanlıurfa and Kayseri. University students from 8 countries of the EU and from Adana, Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Diyarbakır, Denizli, Edirne, Erzurum, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, İstanbul/Bahçeşehir University, İstanbul/Marmara University, İzmir, Kayseri, Kocaeli, Konya, Mersin, Samsun, Sivas, Şanlıurfa, Trabzon and Van have taken part, with the aim being to promote networking, encourage mutual understanding and engage with young people in the substance of EU/Turkey relations. The 2012 series of Youth Conferences marks the 4th year that such conferences are organised with the participation of students from across Turkey and the European Union. The conferences also include cultural programmes. The EU Information Centres network was launched in Turkey in 1996 with the support of the EU Delegation to Turkey and the cooperation of local partners in the provinces. It is active in 21 provinces. The Centres provide regular information to citizens of Turkey through information activities, the organisation of conferences, meetings and cultural events such as exhibitions and concerts at local and national level.
