Hello all

Saturday was a little cold & blustery for all but for the 11 hardy soles that took to the fairways. The comp was Russian Stableford with the top pairing going to Trevor Jury and James McSeveny with 78 points. On a couple of occasions the greens were covered in hail which made for quite a sight, from under the trees that is. The only two of the day was myself on the third.

Raffle winners to Warren & Lex visiting from Fitzroy, Mike Burkhart and Robin

Broadmore.

Thanks to the few for supporting the raffle.

Sunday saw a lovely day dawn on us for a fabulous concept John Garner put together in the form of a mini Ryder Cup challenge between Manukorihi and Urenui. Very well organised as usual on Johns behalf. This man is an absolute treasure for our club and must be congratulated on putting on such a great day. The format was 4 ball best ball matchplay and enjoyed by all.

The trophy John had sponsored by Waitara New World was absolutely outstanding .

Turned out of native timbers by Bruce Cowley as a copy of Johns original gold plated cup he won playing the cup in the early 70,s for the Europeans. We really have our very own native NZ Ryder Cup and guess where it resides for the first 2 years. You got it

Manukorihi takes out the first running of the John Garner Mini Ryder Cup by a massive

12 1/2 wins over 4 1/2 to Urenui. Sixty Eight players enjoyed wine and nibbles before the matches got underway and finished afterwards with a great quiz on some history of the Cup and players and a lot of banter. The proceeds of the day were divided between the two clubs.

A huge thanks must go to John Garner for his efforts single handedly taking this on to give us such a different concept for a tournament. Looking forward to a repeat in 2 years time as we take our version of the Ryder Cup to Urenui.

A bonus for players was a complimentary copy of John’s Short Game-Book 1.

Good Luck to all the finalists in the Matchplay Club Champs

Junior Golf

No Juniors this weekend.

PRO – TIP

A very knowledgeable Professional once described the swing as “TWO TURNS & A

SWISH.”

Learn to TURN your shoulders slowly behind the ball. On the downswing move your weight across &

“SWISH the CLUB with your HANDS/ARMS PAST your little body”

and then & only then TURN THROUGH !!

I call this Pro Basics because it is what every good player does !! They all turn, how far, how fast & at what angle they are all different but they all “TURN – then SWISH - &

TURN THROUGH.’

Good Luck & Good Golfing.

Professional John Garner.
