You took a Graduate exam in March. Now the certificate says IFE Level 3 Diploma….. In March this year you took one or more IFE Graduate examination papers. Now that you have your certificate, the word Graduate is not mentioned and the phrase IFE Level 3 Diploma is used instead. What does this mean? On March 1st the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (also known as Ofqual,) accredited the IFE’s examinations as nationally recognised qualifications within most of the UK. Because our accredited qualifications are now placed on a national framework they can no longer have the traditional IFE titles we all recognise. They have to be named in a way that reflects the framework and we will have to get used to different descriptions and new titles. For the IFE the Graduate syllabus, exams and certificates have become parts of the IFE Level 3 Diploma. The details of the new qualifications can be found at:- http://www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk/awardingbody/qualifications/ The+Institution+of+Fire+Engineers+qualifications.seo.aspx The IFE exam papers were printed several weeks before Ofqual made the accreditation: this explains why the papers were called Graduate examinations but your certificate refers to the IFE Level 3 Diploma. The chart below matches the old names of the former examination papers with the new titles of the units in the recently accredited qualification:Old Graduate Examination Paper Paper 1: Fire Safety Paper 2a: Operations Paper 2c: Aero Fire Studies Paper 3: Fire Engineering Science Paper 4: Human Resource Management Paper 5: UK Operations Paper 6: UK Leadership and Management New Unit for IFE Level 3 Diploma Qualification Fire Safety (H/502/3113) Fire Service Operations – International (F/502/3118) Aero Fire Studies (T/502/3116) Fire Engineering Science (D/502/3112) Human Resource Management in Fire and Rescue Services – International (A/502/3117) Fire Service Operations - UK Specific (K/502/3114) Leadership and Management in Fire and Rescue Services - UK Specific (M/502/3115) If your certificate looks like this... You have passed four exams and you have completed the four units required to achieve the qualification. This is the full title of the qualification you have achieved. This is one of the three qualifications available within the IFE Level 3 Diploma … you have passed four exams and achieved the qualification. Congratulations. On the other hand, if your certificate looks like this…. You have passed two exams and have completed two units of the four required to achieve the qualification. The full title of the qualification will not appear on a certificate for the IFE Level 3 Diploma until you have passed four exams and completed the four units required to achieve it. … you have to pass two more exams to achieve the qualification. We hope you are successful next year.
