We have developed a diagnostic kit for the detection of Bovine mastitis, an inflammation of the mammary gland in cows which is a major challenge for the dairy industry worldwide as it lowers milk yield, reduces milk quality, and increases overall production costs. We have developed immunoassays to detect mastitis; a method for Partner Search Form measurement of somatic cell count; an integrated identification system for three of the key causative agents, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Streptococcus agalactiae. The Molecular Diagnostics Research Group (MDRG) at NUI Galway has 20 years experience and an international track record of achievement in the development and application of molecular diagnostics tests for microbial species identification. We are interested in applying our diagnostic technology for other diseases, prevailing in developed and developing countries.
