Job Description
POSITION TITLE:
Resident Assistants/Lead Resident Assistants/Senior Resident Assistants
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Manor Coordinator

Position Summary: Provides Oak Crest residents with personal care and other assistance with activities of daily
living as outlined by resident care plans and doctor's orders. Administers treatments and medication as
trained and as appropriate. Works cooperatively with other team members to ensure excellent service is
provided to elders and their families. Participate in the nurturing, growth and maintenance of the human habitat
at Oak Crest which is made up of elders, staff, children, plants/nature, and animals.
Qualifications:
Resident Assistants/Lead Resident Assistants/Senior Resident Assistants
1. Certified nursing assistant in State of Michigan or six months experience in
providing personal care to the elderly preferred.
2. Possesses strong interpersonal communication skills.
3. Dresses and behaves in a professional manner.
4. Able to perform shift work including weekends and holidays.
5. Able to work autonomously and as a team member.
6. At least 18 years of age.
Lead Resident Assistants/Senior Resident Assistants Additional Qualifications:
1. Works under the Resident Assistant job description.
2. Must possess a minimum of two years experience in the industry.
3. Must be certified as a Medical Assistant, CNA or possess a minimum of 6 months
experience with Oak Crest.
4. Must be capable of dispensing medications as proven by skills testing.
5. Must be recommended by Manor Coordinator for Sr. Resident Assistant job title.
Basic Objectives and Responsibilities:
1. Provide residents with personal care and assistance with activities of daily living.
2. Administer medications and treatments consistent with doctor's orders.
3. Ensure proper documentation and record keeping is maintained.
4. Complete housekeeping, dietary and life enrichment tasks as needed to meet resident needs.
5. Interact professionally with other staff, visitors and family members.
6. Comply with company policies, standards and licensing rules.
7. Perform other tasks as requested by the supervisor.
Physical Requirements:
1. Able to lift 75lbs either alone or as part of a two-person assist of a larger person, at times
repetitively.
2. Have unlimited bending and stooping capacities including but not limited to:
--as part of a one or two person assist of a resident off the floor.
--assisting a resident out of a couch or chair.
3. Able to pivot while bearing the weight of a resident.
4. Sighted so as to be able to read small print and handwriting.
5. Able to hear in order to communicate over the telephone and in person.
6. Able to speak in order to communicate over the telephone and in person
7. Cognitively able to reason and solve complex problems.
8. Possesses fine motor skills so as to be able to write reports, provide injections, etc.
Note: Bold items relates to functions of Lead Resident Assistant only.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS – Resident Assistants/Lead Resident Assistants/Senior Resident Assistants
1. Provide personal hygiene to residents including assistance with teeth brushing, peri care, showering and
bathing, as well as other personal hygiene needs.
2. Provide assistance to residents with toileting and/or use of incontinency products.
3. Provide assistance to residents with getting dressed and/or undressed.
4. Provide assistance to residents with personal grooming tasks such as shaving, clipping finger nails and toe
nails, manicures, brushing, combing and styling hair, application of makeup, and other grooming tasks
requested by residents.
5. Administer medications and treatments as directed by the Manor Coordinator and as ordered by
residents' physicians.
6. Supervise staff on duty if working as lead for shift.
7. Assist residents with ambulation and transfers.
8. Complete housekeeping tasks including bed making, setting and clearing tables, cleaning dining room,
laundry, vacuuming, trash collection and/or disposal, wheelchair, walker and other special equipment cleaning,
and other housekeeping tasks as necessary or assigned.
9. Dining Services tasks including pouring liquids, passing snacks and special nourishments, dishing up and
serving meals and other dietary tasks as necessary or assigned.
10. Life Enrichment tasks including encouragement of participation in activities, escorting/assisting residents to
attend activities, distribution of mail and/or newspapers, reading mail to residents, and other Life Enrichment
tasks as necessary or assigned.
11. Answer phone and transfer calls or take messages as appropriate.
12. Provide documentation including shift report on each resident, charting of treatments and
medications administered, incident/accident reports, witness reports, discharge/transfer forms, and other
documentation as required.
13. Interact with residents, family and staff in courteous, professional and helpful manner.
14. Attend mandatory staff meetings and in-services.
15. Share in the daily maintenance of the animals in the homes. Include an elder as much as possible in the
maintenance of the human habitat.
Although every attempt has been made to make this job function list as complete as possible, there may be other
tasks not described above which become necessary for the Resident Assistants/Lead Resident Assistants/Senior
Resident Assistants to perform.
