Northumbria University is building on its reputation for high quality programmes in Biomedical and Medical sciences and collaborating with institutions of higher education outside of the UK. As a result of this the School requires an outstanding individual to support delivery in Newcastle upon Tyne of the Keith B Taylor Global Scholars Programme, a Medical programme taught in collaboration with St George’s University International School of Medicine, Grenada in the West Indies. The development of collaborative programmes outside the UK provides an ideal opportunity for staff to work with a range of international students with diverse cultural backgrounds. Those teaching on the medical programme at Northumbria University may be required to occasionally teach the same subjects in Grenada, and may also be asked to teach at collaborator sites worldwide and thus should be prepared to undertake international travel. The Faculty believes in research-informed teaching and expects academic staff to incorporate current research, either their own or from the wider scientific community, into the learning process. The successful applicant should have a higher degree in immunology; plus either practical or research experience. Significant investment in research support and research facilities has produced a lively research-led teaching culture within the Faculty that will allow the successful applicant opportunities to develop their science-based or pedagogic research interests alongside their teaching and will be expected to supervise final-year dissertation projects. Students in the Faculty praise the friendly and supportive atmosphere generated by the staff, and successful applicants would be expected to undertake guidance tutor duties and promote the student experience. Classes are timetabled across the whole of the teaching day and you will be required to conduct night-classes and make occasional contributions to open days at weekends.
