Part Time Research Assistant – Center for Laboratory Animal Sciences Job Description The Research Assistant will work in collaboration with investigators from the Crown Bioscience US Research Center, which is affiliated with the David H. Murdock Research Institute. CrownBio is an independent contract research organization that partners with the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries in the discovery and development of novel therapeutics to treat human diseases such as cancer. The position requires hands-on expertise working with in vivo animal models of oncology including rodent models. Required skills include experience with: handling animals, in vivo experimental procedures, cell culture, some immunology analysis and basic computer skills, including fluency in using Microsoft Office software. The successful candidate must be able to have a flexible working schedule that may include holidays and weekends due to the nature of experimental procedures. Responsibilities include: • Assisting and conducting experiments in animal models of disease, including those that use rodents. Specific tasks will include: • Dosing, monitoring and anesthetizing animals as well as taking blood samples and conducting immunology analysis such as FACS, etc. • Weighing, measuring tumor size, collection of animal organs at termination point • Preparation of samples for bioanalysis: Sample collection, centrifugation, plasma/serum extraction, labeling, processing, storage and inventory, following Standard Operating Procedures. • Data management • Data input and quality assurance • Assisting with data analysis and the evaluation and interpretation of the collected data. • Assisting with database management • Practice of good laboratory record keeping and documentation • Assisting with the preparation of technical reports that accurately describe the goals of the work, the experimental design, and experimental results, as well as conclusions and recommendations for future experiments. • Communicating ongoing project progress. • Participation in scientific discussions The Qualifications for this position includes: • BS in biology, immunology, pharmacology or a closely related field with ≥ 2 years experience in handling animals in a research laboratory. • Knowledge of Immunology, oncology, pharmacology will be better but not necessary. • Competency in using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint Opening Date: March 6, 2015 Status: Now taking applications, resumes currently under review.
