UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MADISON School of Medicine and Public Health 2015 WISCONSIN EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES FOR CHILDREN (WI EMSC) CONFERENCE February 28, 2015 University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Clinical Simulation Center 600 Highland Avenue Madison, Wisconsin University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Office of Continuing Professional Development in Medicine and Public Health Department of Pediatrics PLEASE REGISTER EARLY Enrollment is limited to 24 participants Wisconsin Emergency Medical Services for Children (WI EMSC) Children’s Health Alliance of Wisconsin The UW Health Clinical Simulation Program is a state-of-the-science clinical simulation facility with multidisciplinary facilities, resources and curriculum, and interdisciplinary capabilities. Capable of conducting interdisciplinary health care scenarios, the program brings together current simulation activities and takes advantage of the latest simulation techniques and technologies in this rapidly growing field of health professional education. Practice Gaps and Needs In 2010, a total of 423,128 Wisconsin children were cared for at an emergency department and many more were seen at urgent care facilities. Children have unique medical needs due to their size, physiology, anatomy, and emotional state that require special consideration. In 2006, the Institute of Medicine identified significant disparity in quality of care in large city tertiary care centers in contrast to community emergency departments, where the vast majority of children receive emergency care. The expertise of providers at these community facilities vary significantly and additional exposure to education on the care of the pediatric patient is needed. This conference provides evidence-based updates for common and critical pediatric emergency problems through short focused didactic sessions. It also includes hands-on skills training using high fidelity simulation as well as emergency pediatric procedures training in airway management, vascular access, and chest compression. Learning Objectives As a result of active participation in this activity, learners will be able to: 1. 2. 3. 4. Utilize evidence-based pediatric emergency medicine to provide standardized care Demonstrate the effective use of evidence-based pediatric emergency care procedures using simulation Identify commonly used pediatric emergency care resources Build partnerships and collaboration with EMSC and regional pediatric acute care providers to improve pediatric emergency care Intended Audience and Scope of Practice This CME activity is designed to meet the needs of Urgent Care Center and Emergency Department physician and nurse providers who participate in the care of the pediatric and adolescent patient. Date: Saturday, February 28, 2015 Place: University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, Clinical Simulation Program 600 Highland Avenue, Madison, Wisconsin http://go.wisc.edu/52322x Conference Fee The conference fee of $50 includes the cost of tuition, materials, continental breakfast, and lunch.
