Job Purpose:
To ensure effective and coordinated delivery and assist in the development of the Trust’s
conservation and education work in the New Forest and Avon Valley Living Landscape area.
Reporting to the Head of Conservation, this role requires the management of a diverse team
spread across a number of different locations. The post involves representing the Trust and
promoting its policies in a key geographical area. A good level of professional judgement is
required as is an excellent understanding of ecological principles. The post holder will need a
good grasp of the complex nature of the administration of the New Forest to enable them to
engage effectively with key stakeholders.
The role will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of a number of externally funded
projects and the development of new initiatives. The role will manage the Blashford Lakes
team and will work with colleagues to maintain the key relationships with the Blashford Lakes
Partnership.
The role will be responsible for managing two externally funded invasive non native species
projects and liaising with Natural England regarding the management of Kitts Grave, part of
Martin Down NNR.
Key responsibilities:
Overall
1. Ensure the effective and coordinated delivery of conservation, education and
engagement activities within the New Forest and Avon Valley Living Landscapes area
including practical delivery on nature reserves, land advice, project delivery and
education / outreach.
2. To be the public face of the Trust within the New Forest and Avon Valley.
3. Work with the Head of Conservation / Head of Education & Engagement to develop
opportunities in line with the relevant Trust strategies within the area including

fundraising, representing the Trust on relevant partnerships and developing new projects.
4. Work with relevant strategy leads to monitor progress towards relevant Trust objectives in
the area.
5. Work with the Head of Estates & Enterprise and Head of Conservation (South Hampshire
& Isle of Wight) to ensure compliance with our legal and contractual obligations, and
ensure Trust policies are adhered to.
6. Monitor budgets according to Trust procedures and undertake / effectively delegate
funding and project administration tasks as required.
Management

Line manage and support staff delivering the Trust’s work in the area team helping them
achieve excellent work performance, following the Trust’s staff management policies and
procedures i.e. carry out annual performance and development reviews, regular
supervisory meetings, setting and monitoring targets and reporting on achievements.

Where necessary, facilitate matrix management from staff with cross-cutting functions.

Manage contractors and consultants

Foster a spirit of team working and cooperation through team meetings and participation
in relevant cross-cutting meetings

Prepare and monitor annual budgets and work plans liaising closely with the Head of
Conservation and other senior managers.
Contributing to a successful Trust

Promote the Trust wherever possible, in particular recruiting new members and acting as
an ambassador for our vision, values and aims.

Abide by all Trust procedures, policies and legal obligations.
General

Undertake additional duties commensurate with the post as may reasonably be
requested from time to time.
