INT. JONES’S BEDROOM – NIGHT (REALITY) JONES, a young man in his 20s, is sitting on the edge of his bed, hunched over. He is in athletic shape and wearing blue pajama bottoms with no shirt. He has stubble on his face and a full-unopened vodka bottle in his right hand. There is a shadow on the wall that belongs to TIM, an older gentleman in his early 50s. Tim talks with a lump in his throat. TIM I’ll a, I’ll be here early to pick you up. Jones continues to look down at the ground. JONES K. TIM Just so you know, alcohol doesn’t numb the pain. Jones shifts the vodka bottle in his hand. He stares at it in silence. JONES Well it can’t hurt. TIM Just make sure you don’t over do it. Jones looks up Tim’s shadow on the wall. JONES I’ll be fine. Goodbye now. The shadow on the wall shifts back and forth and then leaves. Jones hears the front door SLAM shut. Jones throws the vodka at the wall and there is a loud SHATTER of glass. Jones watches as the vodka runs down the wall. Jones gets up and walks to a tall dresser in the corner of his room. On it is a cd stereo, a picture of him and ALEXIS, a cd labeled “Alexis Mix”, and a few other objects. Jones opens up the cd player and puts in the cd labeled “Alexis Mix”. “Turn The Page” by Matt Hires begins to play. Jones drags his feet as he walks to his nightstand by the side of his bed. He grabs a pill bottle off his nightstand and takes two pills. He slowly lies down on his bed. He lays still for a brief moment and then slams his fist down on the bed. He lets out a loud roar in anger. FADE OUT: INT. JONES’S BEDROOM – NIGHT (DREAM) FADE IN: Jones is in bed tossing and turning around, sleepless. Jones is still wearing blue pajama bottoms and shirtless. He is clean-shaven. Jones kicks his legs free of the covers and rolls over onto his chest and looks at the clock on his nightstand. The clock reads 3:04 am in big red lights. He reaches over for his phone and makes a call with his face buried in his pillow. The phone rings 3 times and then ALEXIS answers. ALEXIS (V.O.) Hello. Jones lifts his head up from the pillow. JONES Hey, can you come over? ALEXIS (V.O.) Do you know what time it is? Jones looks over at his clock as it reads 3:05 am. JONES Yeah it’s 3:05 in the morning. Can you come over? ALEXIS (V.O.) We just went out not three hours ago. JONES So is that a yes? ALEXIS (V.O.) Pretty soon I’m just gonna move in. Give me ten minutes. JONES Thank you, beautiful. Jones hangs up and tosses his phone on his nightstand. He rolls over onto his back and stares at the ceiling for a moment. He scratches his head and then gets out of his bed. Jones turns on the light on his nightstand, which dimly lights the room. He makes up his bed and puts on a plain blue t-shirt. The broken vodka bottle isn’t on the ground nor is the mark from it hitting the wall. Jones sits on the edge of his bed and waits for her to show. There is a knock at the door and he leaves to answer it. Jones enters his room first and ALEXIS, in her 20’s, follows wearing purple pajama bottoms and a pink shirt that shows off her figure. Jones walks to the far side of the bed as Alexis ask. ALEXIS So what is it tonight? JONES I felt like being in the presence of an angel. Alexis smiles and Jones hops on top of the bed and sits up with his back against the wall. He pats the bed, meaning for her to join him. Alexis turns off the light and lays down on her right side facing Jones. Her right hand is placed under her head holding it up. ALEXIS You know those lines aren’t always going to work. JONES I’ll just have to think of something else when the time comes then. ALEXIS That you will. Alexis smiles and turns onto her left side. Jones lays down placing his right arm across her and his head against her shoulder. ALEXIS So how long am I here for tonight? JONES Just till I fall asleep, but you can leave now if you like? Alexis turns her head to look back at Jones. ALEXIS Are you serious? Leave now after I just got comfortable. Alexis turns her head back around placing it on the pillow. ALEXIS I don’t think so. Alexis closes her eyes as Jones lightly kisses her shoulder. ALEXIS Jones, what are we doing? JONES Lying in bed together. ALEXIS No I mean what are we really doing? Jones face becomes puzzled. JONES Um, we’re both thinking of how awesome Joseph Gordon-Levitt is? ALEXIS Well now I am, but that’s not what I meant. Alexis turns her body around and is face to face with Jones. Her hair falls in front of her face. ALEXIS I mean this can’t last forever. Jones pushes her hair behind her ear out of her face. JONES I didn’t think it could. Forever is just too short a time. Alexis smiles and drops her head on the pillow. Jones leans in and whispers in her ear. JONES Looks like those lines are still working. Alexis lies still, smirking. ALEXIS For now they still are. Jones lays down placing his forehead against hers. Alexis closes her eyes lays motionless. Jones closes his eyes as well and puts his right arm over her body. He rubs his hand up and down her back. They lay in silence for a moment and Jones slowly gets up. Alexis does not move at all. ALEXIS Where are you going? JONES It’s too quiet. Alexis rubs on her arm, eyes still closed. ALEXIS Just hurry up, I’m cold without you. Jones makes his way to the stereo in the corner of his room on top of a tall dresser. He turns it on and presses play. “Sweet Disposition” by The Temper Trap begins to play. JONES Is this ok? ALEXIS Yeah. Jones turns up the volume. He walks to the edge of the bed. JONES Dance with me. Alexis opens her eyes and looks at him. Jones holds out his right hand for her. She slowly pushes herself up and begins to crawl on the bed towards his hand. INT. DANCE FLOOR – NIGHT (DREAM) Jones’s hand is greeted by Alexis’s left hand, which is covered with a snow-white colored bridal glove. Alexis is dressed in a snow-white colored dress with snowwhite bridal gloves. She is wearing a gold necklace with a locket on it. She has low white heels on and her hair is up and done nicely. Jones is in a tuxedo with a black bow tie and shiny leather dress shoes. He is clean-shaven. They are on a polished wooden dance floor. There are no walls, only darkness, in what seems like and endless space for them to dance. A soft spot light hits them as they stand there, Alexis’s hand in Jones’s. Alexis smiles and moves close to Jones. She places her right hand on his left shoulder and her left hand is in his right. Jones places his left hand on the right side of her lower back. They begin to step left and right. Alexis steps back, still holding Jones’s right hand, and spins. She moves back into his arms. They step forward and backward staring into each other’s eyes. Alexis steps back holding onto Jones’s hand, she leans back and pulls back in. Alexis spins once again letting go of Jones completely. She dances around him as he looks at her. Alexis comes back to being face to face with Jones. Alexis rocks her shoulders back and forth, while her feet move with a mind of their own. Jones rocks his shoulders along with Alexis, snapping his fingers. He dances like a goof ball but doesn’t care. They come back together and with Jones’s right hand in Alexis’s left, he spins. Jones dances around Alexis, playfully mocking her, while she looks on this time. Face to face once again Alexis tries to hold hands with Jones, but he backs up motioning his finger “no.” Jones shakes his chest at Alexis, she laughs and parodies him. Jones stops and moves close to her. They go back to holding hands, with Alexis’s right hand upon Jones left shoulder and his left on her right side. Alexis places her head against Jones’s chest and they slow dance for a moment. INT. JONES BEDROOM – MORNING (REALITY) The music stops and Jones is lying in bed, which is messed up with the covers and pillows spread all over it. The morning is here and covered by curtains in front of Jones’s bedroom window. Jones’s is once again covered in stubble. Alexis’s father, in his early 50’s, Tim, comes into Jones’s room in a black suit and black tie. Tim looks at the broken vodka bottle on the floor. He does not make any mention of it. Tim makes his way to the curtains and pulls them back. The morning sun shines on Jones’s face and he turns his head avoiding the light. Tim walks to the side of the bed and pushes lightly on Jones’s shoulder. TIM It’s time to get up Jones. Jones groans at Tim. TIM You need to get ready. You don’t want to be late. Jones rolls away from Tim. JONES Just let me sleep. Tim walks to the other side of the bed to face Jones. TIM You can’t sleep forever. JONES Yeah I can. Tim sits down on the edge of the bed. TIM I was able to get this. Tim pulls out Alexis’s necklace with the locket. TIM I wasn’t sure if you’d want it or not. Jones looks at Tim and then the necklace dangling in his hand. JONES Just put it on the dresser. Jones closes his eyes and lays still. Tim sits still not disturbing Jones. After a moment of silence Tim gets up and places the necklace on the dresser next to a picture of Jones and Alexis together. Tim stares at the picture as a tear rolls down his cheek. Tim picks up the picture. He finds his voice and speaks up. TIM Nature’s first green is gold. Her hardest hue to hold, her early leaf’s a flower; but only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Jones pipes up. JONES Nothing gold can stay. Tim takes one last look at the picture and then puts it back on top of the dresser. TIM My daughter loved that poem. Tim walks away from the dresser towards the door. He stops at the doorway. TIM I’ll be waiting outside. Tim walks out of the room. Jones slowly gets up out of bed and walks over the dresser. He looks at the picture and necklace. Jones pops open the cd holder to see the cd labeled “Alexis Mix” in the stereo, he closes it and presses play. “Fire and Rain” by James Taylor plays. Jones opens up a drawer to the dresser and begins to get dressed for the funeral. FADE OUT: THE END
