The Three qualities to Success

Success, it is a very normal word in the world. Most people really want to
become successful, because they want to live in a better life. Some people achieve
their goals, some can not. For example, Just like Steve Jobs, who was the CEO of the
apple company, also he invented the iPhone and the IOS system, these two inventions
makes people’s life much more convenient. For me, I think intelligent, hardworking
and persistence are the most important qualities needed to become a successful
person.
Intelligent, I think it is the most critical of the three point. It means that people
have the ability to learning or solving problem by themselves, not means that people
who has the outstanding talent can be the most outstanding one. The writer, Sherman
Alexie, who was living in the Spokane Indian Reservation in Eastern Washington
state. When he was a child, Alexie father was very fond of reading, so he inherited his
father’s advantages also really fond of reading books. And when he was a university
student, lots of people look down on him because of he is Indian, but he ignored these
and he read books late into the night until he could barely keep his eyes open.
Because of his intelligent, finally he become a writer. He wrote novels, short stories,
and poems for people to read.
Work hard means that you have to try your best to do your things well not treat
casually, no matter is success or fail. According to the book “ The American Ways ”
the author, Maryanne Kearny Datesman said that “ Only by hard work could these
natural resources be converted into material possessions, allowing a more comfortable
standard of living. Hard work has been both necessary and rewarding for most

Americans throughout their history ”.(page 36) this quote means that throughout
Americans’ history, hard working was very necessary and helpful, only hard working
can get high salary, then people can can live in a more comfortable standard of living.
I think it is true, in China, many graduated university students have grandiose aims
but puny abilities, they want to work for a big companies, not in a small companies
because they think that big companies can give higher salary than small companies.
But I think is it wrong, there are more and more university graduates in the modern
society, also lots of graduates are graduated from key university, so they think that
they have the ability to work for a big company and can adapt in the big company. But
I think begin from the most basic part is much better. Work for a small company, you
can learn the much more basic experience and work hard, progress step by step then
get the company's approval to get a higher salary, after then you will have more
working experience and have the ability for working in big companies, rather than
work in a big company but do not hard working then be fired.
Besides, persistence also is one of the importance quality of becoming a
successful person. According to the Article “ Superman and Me ” the author Sherman
Alexie said that, “ We were Indian children who were expected to be stupid” and “ As
Indian children, we were expected to fail in the non-Indian world. Those who failed
were ceremonially accepted by other Indians and appropriately pitied by
non-Indians ”, these two quotes means that, Indian children are not allowed to be
succeed in the non-Indian, Indian children should be failed in the non-Indian world.
Because Alexie was a Indian student in school, so non-Indian student look down on

him, and non-Indian students expected Alexie to be stupid and should be failed. But
He does not feel inferior, but more efforts. Alexie didn’t give up, he asked for answers,
for help, for volunteers and still insist reading books until midnight in order not to be
looked down upon by others. Finally he succeed, he become a successful writer in the
world.
In conclusion, intelligent, hardworking and persistence are connected to each
other. Intelligent give you the ability for studying or working independent, then hard
working help you get more working experience and you will have the ability to get
higher salary, thus you will live in a better life. Last persistence make you insist your
own position and do not give up keep trying, finally get success.
