The Three Qualities to Success

Success, it is a very normal word in the world. Most people really want to
become successful, because they want to live in a better life. Some people achieve
their goals, some can not. For example, Just like Steve Jobs, who was the CEO of the
apple company and he invented the iPhone and the IOS system, these two inventions
sells well and make people’s life much more better because of these Jobs became rich
by selling inventions. So is money makes Jobs become success and well-know? Of
course not, intelligent, hardworking and persistence help Jobs created new inventions
and these inventions benefit mankind also makes him happy after then all of the
people in the world think Jobs was a successful man. Thus intelligent, hardworking
and persistence are the three most important qualities needed to become a successful
person.
Intelligent, it is the most critical of the three quality. It means that people have the
ability to learning knowledge or solving problem by themselves, not means that
people who has the outstanding talent will become conceited. For example, if a
basketball player have the most outstanding talent in his group but he feel very
conceited, he doesn’t practice or improve his skill anymore, so he abandoned his
talents and will never become a success player.
In contrast, the writer Sherman Alexie, who was living in the Spokane Indian
Reservation in Eastern Washington state and he made full use of his intelligent. When
he was a child, Alexie’s father was very fond of reading, so he inherited his father’s
advantages also really fond of reading books. After when he was a university student,
lots of people look down on him because of he is Indian, but he ignored these and he

read books late into the night until he could barely keep his eyes open in order to learn
more knowledge from books and learning knowledge independently developed his
talent, finally he become a writer and successful. He wrote novels, short stories, and
poems for people to read.
Work hard means that you have to try your best to do your things well rather than
treat casually, no matter the result is good or bad, the experience you learn during the
time is much more important. According to the book The American Ways the author,
Maryanne Kearny Datesman mentions that “ Only by hard work could these natural
resources be converted into material possessions, allowing a more comfortable
standard of living. Hard work has been both necessary and rewarding for most
Americans throughout their history ”.(36) it means that throughout Americans’ history,
hard working was very necessary and helpful, only hard working can get high salary,
then people can can live in a more comfortable standard of living. For instance, in
China, many graduated university students have grandiose aims but puny abilities,
they want to work for a big companies, not in a small companies because big
companies can give higher salary than small companies also they think they should
get the higher salary. But is it not true, because a lot of graduates are graduated from
key universities in the modern society, so they will think they have the ability to work
for a big company and can adapt in the big company. But to begin from the most basic
part is much better. When a people works for a small company, he or she can learn
much more basic experience then work harder, progress step by step after get the
company's approval to get a higher salary, and he or she will have more working

experience also have the ability for working in big companies. On the contrary, if a
person starts working in a big company, he feels that such a job is good, so he didn't
hard working and lost his goals, at the end he will be fired. Thus hard working helps
people learn more experience and become success.
Besides, persistence also is one of the importance quality of becoming a
successful person. According to the Article “ Superman and Me ” the author Sherman
Alexie thinks that, “ We were Indian children who were expected to be stupid” and
“ As Indian children, we were expected to fail in the non-Indian world. Those who
failed were ceremonially accepted by other Indians and appropriately pitied by
non-Indians ”, these two explain that, Indian children are not allowed to be succeed in
should be failed in the non-Indian world. Because Alexie was a Indian student in
school, so non-Indian student look down on him, and non-Indian students expected
Alexie to be stupid and should be failed. But He does not feel inferior, but more
efforts. Alexie didn’t give up, he insist his golds. He asked for answers, for help, for
volunteers and still insist on reading books until midnight in order not to be looked
down upon by others. Finally he succeed, he become a successful writer in the world.
Another example James Watt, the person who invented the steam engine. Watt is not
the inventor of the steam engine, the ancestors did research before, but they failed and
gave up doing research about how to create the steam engine. The idea was
abandoned until Watt began to do research about the way to create the steam engine.
Watt used the ancestor’s ideas as a foundation, and did the experiment again and again.
During the period, Watt encountered many problems, but he constantly improved,

constantly tried, and finally Watt created the steam engine. So persistence to help
people make progress in trying, and finally get success.
To put into a nutshell, intelligent, hardworking and persistence are connected
to each other. Intelligent give you the ability for studying or working independent,
you can learn a lot of knowledge during the time. Then hard working help you get
more working experience and give you the ability to achieve your higher goals, thus
you will live in a better life. Last, persistence make you insist on your own position
and do not give up, keep trying and make progress in trying. Finally you will become
a successful people.
