Context
Marie Curie Cancer Care is a UK charity dedicated to the care of people with terminal cancer and
other illnesses. Over the financial year 2012/13, we cared for a total of 38,777 patients.
We are best known for our network of over 2,000 Marie Curie Nurses, who work in the homes of
terminally ill patients across the UK, providing practical care and support. Our nine Marie Curie
Hospices across the UK provide expert care and the best quality of life for people with cancer and
other illnesses. We are the biggest provider of hospice beds outside the NHS, and we are
expanding outpatient and day services at all our hospices. We are also a leader in research into
the best ways of caring for people with terminal illnesses, and how care could be improved in future,
and we campaign for more patients to be able to be cared for and die in their place of choice.
In order to provide and grow these services, Marie Curie deliver a wide range of fundraising
products, including direct marketing, regular giving, legacies, community events, major gifts and
corporate fundraising. In 2012/13, we raised a total of £83.6m in voluntary income, and we hope to
grow this to £100m+ over the next few years. This growth is dependent on our ability to improve
our understanding of what drives the performance of our fundraising products, which is why a
fundraising monitoring and evaluation role is being created.
This post sits between the Fundraising and Analytics teams. The role holder is ultimately
accountable to Fundraising, will be line-managed by the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager in the
Analytics team, and will work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation officer who focusses on the
evaluation of services delivered to patients and families. This new role forms part of our strategy to
build monitoring and evaluation support and expertise across the organisation. This role will be key
to enabling the charity to increase the net income from our Fundraising products that make our
charitable activities possible.
