100% CLEARANCE AT CHAROLAIS SALE Rock solid was the consensus of opinion re the trade at the Charolais sale in Naas on Saturday 22nd October ‘05. Under the hammer was the Lyonsdemesne herd set up in 1989 by Dr. T. Ryan, Lyons Demesne, Celbridge, Co. Kildare. Since the herd was set up with the importation of fifteen heifers from France it has been involved in a continual improvement programme. Cattle from the herd have been sold into Sligo and Dovea A.I. Stations and exported to Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland where they have made a significant impact as stock bulls and in the show ring. Twenty four yearling heifers averaged €4,071 with a top price of €12,400 for “Lyonsdemesne Ulema” born Nov, 2003. By “Oldstone Egbert” and out of a home bred dam by “Gracieux” she was purchased by Jack Quinn, Gort, Co. Clare. Sixteen heifer calves averaged €3,631 with a top price of €6,800 for “Lyonsdemesne Valencia” born Sept. 2004. By “Domino” and out of a home bred dam by “Lyonsdemesne Odeon” she was purchased by Michael Briody, Moate, Oldcastle, Co. Meath. Sixteen bull calves averaged €2,459 with a top price of €6,100 for “Lyonsdemesne Vernados” born October, 2004. By “Gin Tonic” and out of a home bred dam by “Domino” he was purchased by John Dowd, Newtowncashel, Co. Longford. Seventeen in-calf heifers averaged €3,565 with a top price of €5,300for “Lyonsdemesne Una” born April, 2003. By “Lyonsdemesne Maldive” and out of a home bred dam by “Cloondaver Fernando” she was purchased by John McGlynn, Ussaun, Mohill, Co. Leitrim. Seven cows with heifer calves at foot averaged €5,028 with a top price of €6,200 for “ Lyonsdemesne Nightingale”, born Nov. 1997. By “Indurain” and out of “Knockane Epilogue” by “Grove Victor” she was purchased by John Erskine, Crosses, Ballybay, Co. Monaghan. Nine cows with bull calves at foot averaged €4,678, with a top price of €6,700 for “Lyonsdemesne Sarine”, born Dec. 2001. By “Lyonsdemesne Nectar” and out of an imported dam by “Deauville” she was purchased by John Campbell, Ardkeel, Roscommon Thirty six cows (mostly in calf) averaged €4,119 with a top price of €9,500 for “Lyonsdemesne Natasha” born Nov. 1997. By “Ecrin” and out of the imported cow “Guadeloupe” by “Trocadero” she was purchased by John Campbell, Ardkeel, Roscommon. Two stock bulls sold for €3,200, purchased by Vincent McBrien, Corriga, Co.
