ANIMAL CARE & MANAGEMENT AT PETROC
The Animal Care & Management courses are new to Petroc for 2013. The college
has been pro-active in its approach to the new curriculum area and since
February 2013 has employed a Programme Leader in Animal Care & Management
to develop the area. From September 2013 we will be running Level 2 & 3
qualifications. Below are the links to the relevant course specifications:

We also hope to run a NPTC City & Guilds Level 1 qualification to start in
September 2013, this is based on the course recruiting enough students, at the
moment the course looks very likely to run.

We also aim to run a range of grooming qualifications to include NPTC Level 2 dog
grooming assistants certificate, with the potential to develop Level 3 in this area.
We also aim to run a range of short courses, to include dog grooming.
For September we plan to have the following team in place:
 Programme Leader
 Lecturer 2
 Assessor Trainer 1 – Animal Care
 Assessor Trainer 1 – Dog grooming & Animal Care
 2 x weekend and bank holiday animal welfare assistants
Work has already begun on the animal centre, to include:
A building housing the following:
 A rabbit & Guinea Pig room
 A rodent room
 A vet treatment and quarantine area.
 A kitchen and food prep area
 An exotics room, housing snakes, lizards, invertebrates, amphibians and
fish
Outside enclosures
A separate building housing a dog grooming workshop
Local businesses and employers have been keen to engage with Petroc and the
new courses, with work experience arrangements already in place for Exmoor
Zoo, Market Vets and the North Devon Animal Ambulance, as well as several
other local businesses.
