Civility Statement: College policy prohibits any conduct which is harmful, obstructive, disruptive to, or interferes with the educational process... Therefore, the faculty of Chandler-
Gilbert insist that the language of any communication between students and instructors or among students meeting electronically or in person at any Chandler-Gilbert site shall maintain the level of formality appropriate to any college teaching/learning situation. Excessively informal, rude, or insulting language will not be tolerated. Students who engage in such behavior will be withdrawn from the course.
Disability Statement: Chandler-Gilbert will make reasonable accommodations for persons with documented disabilities. Notify Disability Services and Resources and your instructor of any special needs.
Welcome to Español IV Semestre 1
Test and Quiz Policy: Tests assess reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills, as well as grammar, vocabulary, and culture. Ample notice will be given for each assessment. One or two projects may also be assigned. If a student has an unexcused absence the date of a test or a project due date, then the score will result in a 0. If the absence is excused, then the student will make up the test the day the student returns.
Homework Policy: The students will receive a Homework and Test calendar each quarter. Every attempt should be made to complete each homework assignment, due to the fact that homework is graded on completion. However, partial points are possible for incomplete assignments. Students are also graded on in-class activities. If you are absent, the folders on the wall contain all of the activities performed in class that are worth points, and should be checked whenever you are absent.
Late Work: It is the policy of the Modern Languages Department at DRHS to not accept late work.
Absent Work: If students have been absent because of illness or other EXCUSED circumstances, they will be given one week to complete their assignments.
Participation Points: Each student will be given 20 points per 5-day school week for coming to class and participating in an appropriate manner. Points will be deducted for the following reasons: tardiness, unexcused absences, not being on task, not coming prepared to class, misbehavior, not listening to and following instructions, and not using Spanish. If students are tardy, 4 points will be lost and a tardy assignment will be assigned. Student work will not be graded until the tardy assignment is finished.
The following rules are also very important and any lack of adherence to them will result in a reduction of the Participation grade and/or a detention assignment. Again, student work will not be graded until the detention assignment is finished.
Hazing and any form of harassment are not permitted in this classroom. Disrespect, towards the students or the teacher is absolutely not accepted.
Any form of swearing, including in Spanish, is not permitted.
No food or drink will be allowed in the classroom. Only water is permitted.
Inappropriate clothing is strictly prohibited and the student will be sent immediately to obtain decent clothing.
Any form of cheating will result in a zero, parents may be notified, and a discipline referral may be given to an administrator. Electronic devices will be turned off and out of reach during assessments, or the student will receive a 0.
As soon as the students walk in the classroom, the use of cell phones, iPods, or any other electronic device is strictly prohibited. They are not to be SEEN or HEARD at any time in the classroom or the students will risk confiscation of the item. Students will have to pick up the phone or electronic device at the end of the school day from an administrator.
Excessive inappropriate behavior can result in the student being asked to sit outside of the classroom until the bell rings, and can result in a referral if necessary. Señor Borba will contact parents regarding behavioral concerns when he feels it is appropriate.
Final Exam Policy: The final exam is worth 20% of the semester grade, and is administered in two parts.
The Speaking Final Exam is worth 5% of the semester grade. The Multiple Choice Exam is worth 15%.
Classroom Procedures:
Beginning of class: As soon as students enter the classroom , they need to turn homework into the drawer by the printer. After turning in your homework, immediately start on the warm-up activity.
During class: Various activities will occur during class. Appropriate participation is expected and distracting behavior will not be tolerated. Natural conversations will take place daily in Spanish.
End of class: The last 5-10 minutes of class is for starting homework and for asking any final questions on the material covered. Students will remain seated until the bell rings.
Returning assignments to students: Quizzes, tests, and projects will be graded and returned to students within one week. Homework assignments will normally be returned and discussed.
Checking grade status: The online grading system will be updated weekly.
