BAC 100 takes its name from the Bristol Aeroplane Company, which was founded on 19th February 1910 by transport entrepreneur Sir George White. As part of this programme, The Helicopter Museum has staged an exhibit to tell ‘The Weston-super-Mare Story’. This small exhibition explains the role that the Bristol Aeroplane Company has played in Weston-super-Mare over the last one hundred years. This includes the building of prefabricated houses, World War Two Fighter Planes and in the latter years, The Sycamore and Belvedere Helicopters (both of which are also on public display as part of the museums collection). The exhibition is open to the public now and will run at The Helicopter Museum until 18th September when it closes with the official BAC 100 Hangar Dance, to which tickets go on sale later this month. The evening of entertainment will include a live performance by ‘Swing Fever’ who will be rocking the museums aircraft hangar’s to the lively sounds of the 1940’s/50’s. Guests will be able to dress up in period / aviation attire from the past 100 years and a free buffet will also be provided.
