Re: ORGANIZATION OF AN OCEAN INITIATIVE
Dear Mr/Madam Mayor,
Surfrider Foundation Europe is a not-for-profit organization, whose aim is “the defence, safeguarding,
development and sustainable management of the ocean, coast, waves and the people who enjoy them”.
Each year the group organizes the “Ocean Initiatives”, an eco-citizen campaign to spread awareness of the
issue of marine litter through the organization of litter collections on beaches, in lakes, rivers and seabeds on a
worldwide scale.
As part of the 20th campaign, we would like to organize a collection in your borough, in order to give
participants the opportunity to discover the scale of the problem of marine litter and to allow the organizer to
raise awareness among his/her fellow citizens about this issue. This is a genuine eco-citizen commitment,
which is being made on a local level thanks to international support from Surfrider.
In order to take an active role in this campaign, we would like to organize an educational litter collection on
(DATE) at (PRECISE LOCATION OF THE OPERATION) from (START TIME) to (END TIME). We expect (X) people to
take part in this operation.
We would like to request your agreement for this event to go ahead.
We would also like to count on your support and we would be very grateful if you could make a skip available
to us free of charge, if you believe this will be useful. Failing that, I would appreciate it if you could explain the
steps to be taken in order for the litter collected to be taken away by the town council services in the best way
possible while avoiding excessive constraints for the participants.
As organizer, I would also be grateful if you could inform me if the site has any managers or owners and, if so,
provide me with their contact details, in order to get in touch with them and ensure the smooth running of the
operation.
OCEAN INITIATIVES
Furthermore, we would like to bring to your attention the aim of spreading awareness behind this litter
collection. Boroughs like yours are aware of the pollution caused by this litter: the aim is to rally the general
public with the aim of creating awareness and, especially, of preventing this type of pollution and its associated
negative consequences, through informative and educational communication.
