RECYCLING/REFUSE
INFORMATION
The Village of Winnebago has one waste hauler, Gill’s Freeport Disposal, for the Village. Each
residence will be charged $13.00 per month on their water bill. Billing will not be stopped unless
the resident has their water turned off by request.
1. Pickup will be every Tuesday. Gill’s begins picking up refuse at 6:00 a.m. If there is a
holiday on Monday or Tuesday, pickup will be one day later than normal.
2. Each residence is allowed unlimited garbage pickup. Limits: must not be more than 33
gallons per container and not weigh more than 50 pounds.
3. One recycle bin was initially provided for each existing home for recycling material.
One recycle bin will be provided for each newly constructed home. A separate list is
enclosed of items that can be recycled. If you need additional bins, they can be
purchased at the Village Office for $10.00 each or additional recycling items can be put
in a paper grocery bag and placed next to the recycling bin. If you move, please leave
the bin provided with the residence. If the bin is missing when the new person moves
in, they will be charged $10.00 for the replacement bin.
4. Recycling is not mandatory but could save residents money every week by decreasing the
amount of refuse to be picked up. Sorting of recycling items other than paper products is
not necessary. All containers to be recycled need to be rinsed but labels do not have to be
removed. Newspapers, magazines and other paper items must be bundled separately with
string or placed in a paper bag. Any items left in your bin after pickup will be classified as
non-recyclable and will need to be placed in your garbage the following week.
5. Any items not enclosed in a bag or trashcan will be left by the driver. Please do not leave
any items except bundled newspapers or additional recycling items outside of your
receptacles expecting Gills to pick it up. Everything must be enclosed in a trash bag or
trashcan.
6. Yard waste needs to be placed in a trashcan marked with an “X” or in a paper bag. Yard
waste consists of leaves and grass clippings only. Yard waste and trash can’t be mixed
together. The Village will pick up Christmas Trees. Just call the Village Office at 815
335-2020 and request that a work order be given to the Maintenance Department.
7. 2 -Large household items will be picked up weekly with the normal waste. Large items for
pickup include furniture, appliances, mattresses, hot water heaters, etc. Bulk garbage is not
considered a large item. Remodeling material such as carpet, doors, windows, sinks, toilets,
etc. are not considered large household items. Please call Gills Disposal for pick up
instructions and the cost related to removing these items at (815) 233-5644. Carpet must be
cut into 4 foot sections, there is an extra charge, must call for pick up Information.
8. All types of styrofoam and waxed paper are not accepted by the recycling center at this
time. Please dispose of these items with your regular garbage. All paper products and
cardboard should be bundled/bagged together, separate from the rest of the recyclables. If
you have any further questions please contact Gill’s Disposal at 815 233-5644. Thank you
for making Winnebago a cleaner environment and participating in recycling.
