Instructions Begin Mowing Push the choke on your mower three times and pull the cord to start the mower. (Safety handle must be pulled back to start the mower) Your yard can be broken into 4 different sections. The side of the house (section1), the front of house left side (section 2), the front of house right side (section 3), and the grass on the other side of sidewalk surrounding the house (section 4) Begin at point A on the diagram and begin mowing section 1. Start mowing down until you reach the front edge of the house than turn around. Continue this north and south pattern until section 1 is mowed. There are two trees in section 1 to avoid. If there are problems mowing around trees see troubleshooting section. Mowing Section 2 After finishing section 1 you will continue into section 2 at start point B on diagram. We will continue the north and south pattern until section 2 is complete. There are two trees in this section with flowerbeds around them. Make sure to cut as close to the edge of the flowerbed as possible without being in it. Same thing goes with the trees in all sections. This method will minimize weed eating that will be done after mowing. Mowing Section 3 Section 3 will start at point C on diagram. This section involves a hill and mowing around the garden. This section can be mowed in a north and south pattern as well. Mowing Section 4 Your last part of mowing is going to be section 4. This section will include 2 trees and mailboxes. When mowing these sections make sure to mow parallel to the sidewalk to maximize the length of your passes. Weed eating After you are done cutting the larger sections of your yard, it’s time to go back and get everything you couldn’t get with the weed eater. The weed eater will start similar the lawnmower. Push the choke a couple of times than pull the cord to start. You can start weed eating at start point A on diagram. Weed eat the grass around the house that connects to the flowerbed. After that is done use the weed eater to cut around each tree and mailbox in the yard. Finally you will weed eat up and down each side of sidewalk, cutting the grass the overlaps the sidewalk. Chapter 2 9 Clean up Using the Blower A blower makes the cleanup process very easy. Set the weed eater and mower aside, and bring the blower to the street curb. Wear safety goggles and earplugs for safety. Start the blower according to the blower’s user manual. Walk along the curb, and blow cut grass and dirt off the curb and into the street. Use caution when cars and people approach you to avoid blowing rocks and dirt in their direction. Move to the sidewalk. Walk along the sidewalk, and swing the blower from side to side to remove cut grass from the path. Do the same for any other paved areas in the yard, including the driveway. Shut off the blower when the street curb and paved pathways are grass-free, and return the blower to its storage location. Cleaning the Mower Keep your mower and its accessories clean to prolong its useful life. With the mower turned off, inspect the mower for grass or dirt stuck to the mower surface. Remove any grass or dirt on the outside of the mower with your hands and discard it. Remove any grass or dirt stuck to the undercarriage with a hand tool, such as a screwdriver, to avoid placing your hand near the mower blade. Use a cotton cloth or towel to wipe down the mower’s painted surfaces and handlebar. If necessary, use a degreaser to remove any oil that dripped from the engine. Finally, shake the grass catcher bag on the lawn or over a trash can to remove excess grass from the bag. Storing Tools & Final Walkthrough Store your tools in a clean and dry location such as a garage or shed. Install large hooks on the wall to hang the weed eater, blower, and grass catcher bag. Place the mower in an accessible location with low foot traffic. Walk through the entire lawn, and scan for any misplaced objects. Replace lawn ornaments and potted plants in their original locations. Pick up lawn waste bags, and bring them to the trash. As you walk around, take mental notes on what you can improve next time. Troubleshooting Problem Solution Mower does not start. Check that there is gas in the tank. Ask a friend or neighbor for help. Bring the mower to a qualified service professional if it requires repairs. Wet grass clogs the mower. Avoid mowing immediately after a rain or in the early morning before the sun has evaporated the dew. Grass is very long. Raise up the wheels to avoid clogging the mower. If the grass is extremely long, make a rough pass with the weed eater before mowing. Mowing takes too long. Maximize the cutting width of the mower blade to cut as much grass as possible with each pass. Ears ringing after mowing. Wear ear plugs to protect your ears. Chapter 4 13
