All Hallows Church Pew Sheet For service times and for more information, please go to our website: www.allhallowstwick.org.uk or contact the Parish Office (details overleaf) The Second Sunday before Advent 16th November 2014 First Reading Zephaniah 1.7, 12-end Frances Hubbard Second Reading 1 Thessalonians 5.1-11 Oliver Walker Gospel Reading Matthew 25.14-30 Intercessions David Brown Chalice Brian Dudley & Charlotte Ryton Today we welcome the Revd Jeff Hopkin-Williams who will be taking our service this morning. OPENING HYMN Immortal, invisible, God only wise, In light inaccessible hid from our eyes, Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days, Almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise. Great Father of glory, pure Father of light, Thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight: All laud we would render, O help us to see ‘Tis only the splendour of light hideth thee. GRADUAL HYMN Be thou my guardian and my guide And hear me when I call; Let not my slippery footsteps slide, And hold me lest I fall. The world, the flesh, and Satan dwell Around the path I tread; O save me from the snares of hell, Thou quickener of the dead. And if I tempted am to sin, And outward things are strong, Do thou, O Lord, keep watch within, And save my soul from wrong. Still let me ever watch and pray, And feel that I am frail; That if the tempter cross my way, Yet he may not prevail OFFERTORY HYMN All praise to our redeeming Lord, who joins us by his grace, and bids us, each to each restored, together seek his face. He bids us build each other up; and, gathered into one, to our high calling’s glorious hope we hand in hand go on. We all partake the joy of one, the common peace we feel, a peace to sensual minds unknown, a joy unspeakable. And if our fellowship below in Jesus be so sweet, what heights of rapture shall we know when round his throne we meet! COMMUNION HYMN Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light, Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might; Thy justice like mountains high soaring above Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love. To all life thou givest, to both great and small; In all life thou livest, the true life of all; We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree, And wither and perish; but naught changeth thee. The gift which he on one bestows, we all delight to prove; the grace through every vessel flows, in purest streams of love. Ev’n now we think and speak the same, and cordially agree; concentred all, through Jesus’ name, in perfect harmony. Take my life, and let it be Consecrated, Lord, to thee; Take my moments and my days, Let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands, and let them move At the impulse of thy love. Take my feet, and let them be Swift and beautiful for thee. Take my voice, and let me sing Always, only, for my King; Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from thee. Take my silver and my gold; Not a mite would I withhold. Take my intellect, and use Every power as thou shalt choose. Take my will and make it thine: It shall be no longer mine. Take my heart: it is thine own; It shall be thy royal throne. Take my love; my Lord, I pour At thy feet its treasure-store. Take myself, and I will be Ever, only, all for thee. RECESSIONAL HYMN ‘The kingdom is upon you!’ The voice of Jesus cries, Fulfilling with its message The wisdom of the wise; It lightens with fresh insight The striving human mind, Creating new dimensions Of purpose for mankind. ‘God’s kingdom is upon you!’ The message sounds today, It summons every pilgrim To take the questing way, With eyes intent on Jesus, Our leader and our friend, Who trod faith’s road before us, And trod it to the end. Next Sunday: The Feast of Christ the King First Reading: Ezekiel 34.11-16, 20-24 Frances Billington Second Reading: Ephesians 1.15-end Ed Jones Intercessions: Robert Irvine Gospel Reading: Matthew 25.31-end Chalice: Gill Shepherd & Robert Irvine The kingdom is upon us! Ivybridge Christmas Toy Giveaway On Sunday 14th December, All Souls Ivybridge will be hosting their annual Christmas Giveaway for the Ivybridge community giving away free new toys so that parents there can have a little something extra to pass on to their children as a present. The Toy giveaway has always been well received by the community and this year we are acutely aware of increased pressure on many families due to the increased cost of living and changes to the benefits system. This has left many in great financial difficulty which, in an area where the four high-rise blocks of flats on the estate were already in the lowest 0.8% of the whole country for childhood deprivation, means many parents are struggling to provide regular hot meals for their children, let alone Christmas presents. Please would you consider buying an extra toy (suitable for boys or girls aged 3-16) in the region of £6-12 for us to distribute? Please leave any unwrapped new toys on the table at the back of the church by Sunday 7th December. Thank you. Christmas Cards Packs of 10 Christmas Cards (painted by Carol Burrell and Jenny Chivers) are also on offer for £5 per pack. They are available for purchase in the Narthex. Cheques made to All Hallows Church. Craft, Christmas Cards and Food Stall There will be large display of Created Gifts, Tearfund and Traidcraft Christmas Cards and Fairly Traded Foods in the Church on Sunday 7th December. Please come along and purchase or order gifts for yourself or others whilst helping artisans and farmers in developing countries. Home Produce Stall Lee & Alex Oliver have been busy making lots of goodies with the produce from their allotment. They will be selling a selection of chutneys, jams, jellies and pickles along with bags of homemade sweets in the Church after the 10am service on Sunday 23rd November and Sunday 7th December. All proceeds will go to SPEAR. Lunch Club – Christmas Meal This years Christmas Lunch takes place on Wednesday 26th November at 12.30pm. The cost for this will be £5 to cover the cost of the meal. Though this is aimed at people of a pensionable age, it is also open to everyone who might like to come along and enjoy the festivities. Please let us know if you would like to come along: 020 8241 2345 parishadmin@allhallowstwick.org.uk Lighten Our Darkness Advent Service All are welcome to the Lighten Our Darkness Service which takes place on Sunday 30th November at 6.30pm. We are seeking to develop and strengthen the care and support we provide for children at All Hallows during the parish communion services each week. In particular we are looking for those who are committed to this important part of the church’s ministry and who could take on the following roles: - Jam Club Coordinator: to prepare the rotas and ensure that the sessions are adequately staffed by leaders. - Children’s Groups’ Champion: to prepare displays for inside the church and write occasional feature for our website and newsletter. - Singers: to lead the children singing 3 songs in the chapel before they separate into their different groups (no more than once a term). You don’t need to be able to play an instrument. - Leaders: to work in pairs to supervise either Jammy Fingers or Jam Club sessions, again on an occasional basis (no more than once a term) Coffee after the 10am services Help is needed in serving tea, coffee and toast after the 10am services. At present there is a very small, very dedicated band of people who serve the refreshments on a weekly basis, but they need more help. It may be that some weeks there is no provision after the services unless people step forward and help out. If you can give some time to take on this role, please speak to either Alex or Zelma.
