The Review Board for The Social Studies Review
The Publications Committee of the California Council for the Social Studies and the editor of
The Social Studies Review are seeking qualified applicants to serve on the Review Board of
The Social Studies Review.
The Social Studies Review, the refereed journal of the California Council for the Social
Studies, is published annually. The purpose of The Social Studies Review is intended to
provide a forum for the exchange of information and opinions on current theory, research,
and classroom applications of interest to History-Social Science educators.
The term of membership on the voluntary Review Board is 3 years. Members of the Review
Board do not receive compensation for their work. Selected reviewers will be
knowledgeable, experienced educators from a variety of professional backgrounds
employed in a variety of educational settings. These may include classroom teachers,
administrators, curriculum or instructional specialists, coordinators, consultants, directors,
professors, and authors working in schools, district offices, county offices, state offices,
publishing companies, colleges and universities.
The qualifications include:

A strong interest and commitment to teaching and learning about Social Studies.

The willingness to read a minimum of 4 articles and/or book reviews during a
calendar year.

The time to complete an evaluation form on each article and/or book review by the
indicated date.

Experience in teaching and learning about Social Studies.

Membership in the California Council for the Social Studies.

Application to serve as Review Board Member for The Social Studies Review
To apply to become a voluntary Member of the Review Board for The Social Studies Review,
please complete the following:
1. Your name, mailing address, telephone number, cell number, and email address.
2. Indicate your professional responsibilities and location. For example, are you a teacher?
What grade? For how long? Provide the name, address, and telephone number of your
school.
3. List your academic preparation. Teaching credential? Graduate degree?
4. How long have you been a member of the California Council for the Social Studies?
5. In what ways have you been involved with CCSS? (e.g., Have you attended or made
presentations at the annual conference? When? Topics?; Have you served on any
committees? When? Which Committee(s)? In what capacity?)
6. What do you like best about Social Studies? Do you have a particular area of interest?
7. Are you willing to read a minimum of 4 articles and/or book reviews a year and return
your evaluation forms to the editors by the date indicated on your form?
8. Why would you like to serve on the Review Board for The Social Studies Review?
