Scientific Method: LEAPING FROG LAB
This lab is an activity using the Scientific Method, not to mention its FUN!
Contest Date: ____________________ (if absent bring in on the following day)
Grade: up to 20 points for frog’s performance
Contest Rules:
1. Make frog as outlined below. Size of paper will be strictly enforced.
a. Winners & others at random will have their frogs measured.
+/- 2 mm allowed.
2. Any type of single layered paper is good. Only ONE sheet/layer allowed.
Cardboard/poster board is ok.
3. Nothing allowed that will enhance performance, such as tape, springs, metal,
plastic, etc.
4. Only 1 frog/entry per trial. You must make your own frog or you will be
disqualified.
5. Practice making and launching your frog at home. The secret is in your
launching technique.
6. FRIDAY- you may bring in pre-made frogs or make them in class. (You may
bring in materials used at home too!!)
HINT: Fresh frogs work the best!!!!
7. NO DRIBBLING!!!!!
8. NO SLIDING ON BACK!!!
WRITE UP: Use the proper Lab Report Format as your guide. You will need to state
the purpose of this lab- including your hypothesis, materials used, procedures,
data/observations (what technique worked the best), and state a conclusion. Reports
MUST be typed.
