Job Description Post Title: Research Technician (Maternity Cover) Division: National Heart and Lung Institute Section: Leukocyte Biology Job Family and Level: Technical Services, Level 3a Salary Range: £28,770 to £32,750 per annum Responsible To: Professor Clare Lloyd Works closely with: Members of Professor Lloyds research group Working Relationships: Leukocyte Biology administration, other academic staff, service departments Location: South Kensington campus Funding: Wellcome Trust Duration: Full time and fixed term for 6 months Summary of Post We are examining the role of inflammatory cells and the mediators that they produce in eliciting the progression of airway remodelling in models of progressive lung disease. The work will involve a variety of in vivo and in vitro techniques to evaluate the cells and molecules involved in the development of allergic airways disease, particularly the interactions of leukocytes and resident lung cells during development of airway remodelling. Duties and Responsibilities To be responsible for immunisations, measurement of lung function, sampling of the airways and tissue preparation. Provide up-to-date technical expertise, advice and support to a very high standard in cytokine assays, histological analysis, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry and RNA and DNA preparation. To conduct and plan own scientific work with appropriate supervision. To maintain highly organised and accurate record of experimental work. To conduct data analysis, ensuring the validity and reliability of data at all times To contribute to the smooth running of the Group’s laboratories and, facilities with other scientists, clinicians, technicians and students within the laboratories. To participate in Group research meetings and internal seminars. IMPERIAL COLLEGE LONDON Person Specification Qualifications and Experience: Essential Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences, preferably with a high immunology content Proven experience in immunocytochemistry, microscopy techniques, RNA and DNA preparation, flow cytometry, ELISA.
