 An exhibitor may ENTER up to nine animals ($2 per animal entered).
 An exhibitor may EXHIBIT a maximum of five animals at the show.
 An exhibitor may EXHIBIT a maximum of three animals in one class.
THERE WILL BE NO SUBSTITUTIONS PERMITTED AT THE SHOW!! IF THE ANIMAL IS NOT
CATALOGED, IT WILL NOT BE SHOWN! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

A current rabies vaccination administered by a licensed veterinarian is required for animals
3 months of age and older. All vaccine label directions must be followed, and all rabies
vaccinated cattle must be accompanied by a rabies vaccination certificate or the
vaccination information must be included on the CVI. If a rabies vaccination certificate is
provided, the certificate must contain legible name and contact information of the
veterinarian who administered the vaccine and the veterinarian’s signature. A copy of the
rabies vaccination certificate is acceptable.

THE CERTIFICATE OF VETERINARY INSPECTION (C.V.I.) THAT MUST ACCOMPANY ALL ANIMALS
MUST BE ISSUED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF CHECK-IN OF THE SHOW. FOR THE SOUTHWEST
DISTRICT JUNIOR DAIRY SHOW, THE C.V.I. MUST BE ISSUED ON OR AFTER JULY 7, 2015!! SEE

The district show will follow all state junior dairy show rules attached in regards to eligibility, classes,
substitute showman rule, transfer dates, etc.

Animal registration papers and health charts will be checked prior to unloading at the show. Animals
already at the Morrisons Cove Dairy Show will be rechecked during the district show check-in period
Thursday afternoon.

Any animals being exhibited at the Morrisons Cove Dairy Show must follow the additional rules for that
show in regards to check-in, health rules, etc. Please contact Tom Ritchey if you have questions
concerning the Morrisons Cove Dairy Show.

EXHIBITORS MUST FOLLOW THE STATE DRESS CODE WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTION:
District show exhibitors MAY wear black pants or black skirts. ALL OTHER STATE DRESS CODE
RULES (NO SHORTS, ETC.) WILL BE ENFORCED!! (SEE COPY OF STATE DRESS CODE BELOW).
Exhibitors are reminded that the “all white” dress code will continue to be enforced at the State
Junior Dairy Show in Harrisburg.
STATE DRESS CODE
Clothes and person should be neat and clean. A plain white all-white uniform is required. (SEE
EXCEPTION TO THE “ALL WHITE” RULE FOR THE DISTRICT SHOW ABOVE.) Knee length or longer
skirts for females are acceptable. Non-show hats, shorts, blue jeans, bare feet, sleeveless shirts, and
sandals will not be allowed. Any exhibitors not meeting these standards will not be allowed to participate in
the show. A harness with the entry number displayed, both front and back, will be considered as part of
the uniform and must be worn while in the show ring. For those who do not have access to a harness, they
may pin the numbers on their front and back. Uniforms bearing farm names or advertising will not be
acceptable in the show ring.

AN EXHIBITOR MEETING WILL BE HELD FOR ALL EXHIBITORS AND THEIR PARENTS AT 6 PM
THURSDAY, AUGUST 6, IN THE SHOW ARENA. PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND.

THE MORRISONS COVE MEMORIAL PARK SWIMMING POOL WILL BE OPEN THURSDAY
EVENING, AUGUST 6, FOLLOWING THE EXHIBITORS’ MEETING. THE POOL WILL BE PROVIDED
AT NO COST FOR SHOW EXHIBITORS AND FAMILIES. PLEASE BRING YOUR BATHING SUIT.


Breakfast items will be on sale Friday morning, August 7, for those staying on the grounds.


Required Health Rules for the Southwest District Dairy Show
No animals showing evidence of contagious, infectious, or external parasitic disease (examples: active
ringworm, lice, warts, mange) or under quarantine for any disease shall be allowed entrance into the show.
By completing the show entry form and providing a Certificate of Veterinarian Inspection, exhibitors
affirm an appropriate vet-client-patient relationship as outlined by state regulations.
All animals must be accompanied by an official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (health certificate) and bear
unique permanent identification. This Certificate of Veterinarian Inspection must be issued within 30
days of check-in of the show. FOR THE SOUTHWEST DISTRICT JUNIOR DAIRY SHOW, THE
CERTIFICATE OF VETERINARIAN INSPECTION MUST BE ISSUED ON OR AFTER JULY 7, 2015. No
animals will be admitted to the show without the necessary health papers.
Vaccination requirement:
All cattle must be accompanied by a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (health certificate), signed by an
accredited veterinarian, that includes a statement that the animal(s) identified have been immunized against
IBR, PI3, BRSV, and BVD. Animals that have never been vaccinated against BVD or have not been
vaccinated against BVD in the previous 12 months must receive one dose of modified live virus vaccine given
at least 15 days and not more than 180 days before the show, or two doses of killed vaccine, two to four weeks
apart, with the last dose given at least 15 days and not more than 180 days before the show. Animals that
have been vaccinated against BVD within the previous 12 months must receive at least a single injection of
modified live virus or killed vaccine given not less than 15 days and not more than 180 days before the show.
The date of the live virus vaccination OR the dates of the last two killed virus vaccinations must be
recorded on the health chart. It is suggested that the veterinarian include his/her phone number on the
Certificate of Veterinary Inspection. Hyperimmune serum may not be used as a substitute for the above
vaccination requirement. Animals will not be admitted to the show unless these requirements are met.
To be consistent, the check-in committee will consider the following dates as the last possible dates for
B.V.D. vaccinations (i.e. 15 days prior to check-in):

Tuberculosis and brucellosis requirements:
1. No tuberculosis test is required.
2. No brucellosis test is required.

IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR HEALTH PAPERS
A.
For District Shows:
Individual official ID will have a U.S. shield and includes:
 A USDA-issued National Uniform Eartagging System (NUES) tag; or
 A 15-digit Animal Identification Number eartag starting with “840”(including RFID) or
 Other official identification approved by USDA.
(BRANDS AND TATTOOS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE IDENTIFICATION FOR HEALTH PAPERS!)
B.
For the PA Junior Dairy Show in Harrisburg:
New Requirement: All cattle must have an 840 Radio Frequency Identification (RFID/EID) tag that
corresponds to the Certificate of Veterinary Inspection to meet the United States Department of
Agriculture (USDA) Animal Disease Traceability Identification requirements for interstate movement of
cattle. 840-standard tags bear the official USDA ear tag shield and a 15-digit identification number
beginning with 840 – the official United States identification prefix.
Premises Number: A federal premises identifier number (PIN) or state location identifier number (LID)
is required to purchase 840 RFID/EID tags. Obtain your PIN or LID by contacting PA Department of
Agriculture. Online registration is available at the PA Dept. of Agriculture website
(http://www.agriculture.state.pa.us). Just search “Premises ID” and then click “online services” for
this. The premises registration form can be found there. Here is the complete site address:

Purchasing Tags: Allow six to eight weeks to obtain your premises number and tag order. 840
RFID/EID tags, EID only, or EID visual matched sets may be obtained through your chosen animal
health distributor, including:

Breed Registration Certificates: Not all breed associations may be incorporating this identification type into
their program requirements. If the association does not use these tags, you will need to tag your animal with an
840 RFID/EID tag.
NOTE: Original breed association registration certificates must also be presented during show checkin to verify sire, dam and registration numbers. Although tattoos are not acceptable identification for
health forms, they may be used for animal check-in at shows.

PARTIAL LISTING OF RULES FOR 2015 PA JR. DAIRY SHOW
(COMPLETE RULES CAN BE FOUND IN PA JDS RULES AND REG. BOOKLET OR AT (http://www.das.psu.edu)
ELIGIBILITY:
1. Any boy or girl who is a member in good standing of a recognized 4-H club or FFA chapter, is enrolled in a 4-H or FFA
dairy project under the direct supervision of the vocational agriculture teacher or the county extension agent in
Pennsylvania, and is within the state age limits for FFA and/or 4-H is eligible to exhibit if the project qualifies under the
following rules and regulations. County extension agents and vo-ag instructors will verify the eligibility status of
members prior to the show. To be considered in good standing, a member must meet local (county or school)
requirements for membership.
2.
All animals must have registration certificates issued by one of the following breed associations: American Guernsey
Association, American Jersey Cattle Club, American Milking Shorthorn Society, Ayrshire Breeders Association, Brown
Swiss Cattle Breeders Association, Holstein Association of America, or Red and White Dairy Cattle Association.
Jerseys:
Animals must be registered in the herd register of the AJCA and have HR or GR status. Animals
with Genetic Recovery (fully registered) certificates are eligible. This does not include Original
Animals (OA), Provisional Registry (PR) animals, or J1 animals.
Ayrshires:
Ayrshires must be 87% purebred Ayrshire on the registration certificate as verified by the
Ayrshire Breeders Association.
Guernseys:
Registered Guernsey females and females in Step 4 of the Genetic Recovery program are
eligible. Step 4 females have a “GR” prefix in their name. No other prefixes are eligible.
Holsteins:
Any animal identified with Holstein Association, USA, Inc., that is 87% or higher Registered
Holstein Ancestry (RHA) is eligible.
Red and White Dairy Cattle Association: These animals must be true red in hair color. Registration papers
and/or a certificate of identification (CID) from Holstein Association USA are acceptable. Other
registration papers accepted will be from RWDCA, Holstein Association USA showing the
suffix "RED." Red and White animals must carry 87% dairy bloodlines as designated by RWDCA
guidelines. Dairy bloodlines include: Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein (Black and
White and Red and White), Jersey, Milking Shorthorn, Angler, Swedish Red, Aussie Red,
Lineback, and Rouge Flammande.
Brown Swiss: Animals with standard registry Brown Swiss certificate (white with a green border) are eligible. Step II IE
Identity Enrollment animals which have a green certificate with black border are also
eligible. Animals with other colored certificates are not eligible for show.
Milking Shorthorns: Cattle must have a white Milking Shorthorn Registry Certificates that does not contain the
words “Not eligible to show.” This is a full herd book, 6-digit certificate. Yellow certificates are not
eligible to show. Tattoo numbers must correspond with registry certificates. Animals must have a
base hair color of red, white, or roan according to American Milking Shorthorn
Society’s hair color regulations.
Canadian registry certificates will not be accepted except when they are reregistered with the appropriate U.S.
breed association. Animals must show in the same breed show at their qualifying district show and at the PA
Junior Dairy Show. An animal may only show in one breed show at district shows and at the PA Junior Dairy
Show.
3. Ownership:
A. Animals bred and owned by the exhibitor must be registered in the exhibitor's name by the show date.
B. Animals bred and owned by the exhibitor must be registered in the exhibitor's name by the show date. Animals not
bred by the exhibitor that are in the fall yearling class or younger must be owned by the exhibitor on or before June 1,
2015. This includes fall yearlings in milk. Animals with birthdates falling in the junior two-year-old class or older must
be owned by the exhibitor on or before June 1, 2015. The date of sale shown on the registration certificate will be
considered as the date of ownership.
C. For members of both 4-H and FFA, an animal must be designated as either a 4-H project or as an FFA project for the
entire project year.
D. Leased animals may be exhibited at the Pennsylvania Junior Dairy Show. The purpose of the leasing program is to
provide opportunities to young people who lack facilities or resources necessary to own an animal. Existence of a
lease must be verified by the home county or school; the county or school must have the lease and/or project plan (or
knowledge of the lease) recorded by June 1, 2015. Leased animals must be housed in Pennsylvania. Cows may
only be leased by the exhibitor only if they were previously leased as calves or yearlings. Parents, guardians and
siblings are not permitted to lease animals to their children; likewise, an exhibitor who owns dairy cattle may not lease
other project animals. At the time of check-in, exhibitors of leased animals must present a copy of a signed lease,
signed project plan, or verification letter from an extension agent or teacher that the animal is a properly leased

E. Partnership animals: Partnership animals are not eligible for the Penna. Junior Dairy Show unless the partnership is
with an FFA chapter or 4-H club.
4.
An exhibitor may have shown at only one district (4-H/FFA) show. An exhibitor may exhibit up to five animals total at the
state show. If two or more are in the same class, the second must be shown by a substitute showman the same age as the
exhibitor or younger.

Dry cows must be dry or have had at least one natural calf, been milking at least 305 days, and be milked out
at the show.
To be exhibited at the PA Junior Dairy Show, an animal must have received a blue ribbon for type at a 2014 qualifying
District 4-H/FFA Show.
ALL EXHIBITORS ARE EXPECTED TO ADHERE TO THE PDCA SHOW RING CODE OF ETHICS, FFA CODE OF ETHICS,
AND/OR THE PA 4-H CODE OF CONDUCT AT ALL JUNIOR SHOWS. All exhibitors agree that their milking animals may
undergo ultrasound evaluation at the PA Junior Dairy Show.
Exhibitors in the Pennsylvania Junior Dairy Show who wish to show in the Premiere Junior Show or in the AllAmerican Dairy Show (AADS) must enter their animals on AADS entry forms postmarked by the corresponding AADS
deadlines. There is no other provision for Junior Dairy Show late entries (formerly known as “Crossovers”).
All PA Junior Dairy Show exhibitors agree to comply with ultrasound testing when requested by show management.
Show management can randomly select an animal or animal(s) on show day. If a positive ultra-sound is found at the PA
Junior Dairy Show, the member and animal will be unable to show for one (1) calendar year at any District or other
Qualifying show or at the PA Junior Dairy Show.
6.
SUBSTITUTE SHOWMAN: A. The purpose of the show is to enable youth to have a satisfactory experience in the show
ring. Therefore it is the responsibility of the 4-H or FFA exhibitor to show his/her own animal. The only exceptions
allowed are:
1. If sickness or physical injury after arriving at the show prevents the owner from showing his/her own animal. In the
case of a previous injury or illness prohibiting an exhibitor from showing, a doctor's excuse will be required.
2. If the exhibitor has two or more animals in the same class or of different breeds that are to be shown at the same
time.
3. If the exhibitor finds it impossible to attend due to other commitments. Verification of this activity must be
confirmed in writing by the FFA chapter advisor or county extension agent. This written verification must
be presented at check-in.
In the above instances the exhibitor may request a substitute showman. If approved, a written substitute showman
permission slip will be given to the exhibitor. The substitute showman must notify the ring manager when entering the ring
that he/she is not the owner. The substitute showman must be another 4-H or FFA member of the same age or
younger. The substitute showman will not be considered for a Master Showman award.
Any exhibitor receiving a substitute showman permission slip who attends the show and is physically capable of
showing will be disqualified.
