University of Cambridge Research Associate in Neuroscience Institute of Metabolic Science – Metabolic Research Laboratories Vacancy Ref: RG03555 Salary: £28,695 to £37,394 Limit of tenure applies* Applications are invited for a Research Associate position funded by a European Research Council (ERC) and Wellcome Trust grant. You will work on a research study led by Dr Akhilesh Reddy on the biology of the circadian (24 hour) clock and the molecular mechanisms underlying sleep. You will be involved in the full scope of the research team's activities including learning and applying new techniques. Duties include, but are not limited to, establishing and maintaining transgenic mouse lines, developing mouse behavioural models and in vivo analysis of circadian rhythms and sleep (including video tracking and EEG electrode implantation), the extraction and handling of DNA/RNA/protein from samples, cell and tissue culture, in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. Applicants should have a PhD in Neuroscience, or a related discipline. A strong, demonstrable background in neuroscience, rodent behaviour and rodent surgical techniques (including stereotactic surgery) is essential. Applicants will be expected to have a recent record of peer-reviewed publications in sleep-related research. It is critical that applicants hold a valid UK Home Office Licence (or equivalent in exceptional circumstances). You will have significant experience in the analysis of animal EEG data and video streams using AnyMaze, Ethovision, or equivalent tracking software. Experience in molecular biology (e.g. DNA cloning and transgenic construct design) and optogenetic techniques would be desirable. Candidates are expected to demonstrate good information technology skills, have the ability to work effectively within a team, and to manage their own workload in an organised way. Applications, including CV and covering letter should be submitted on-line via Apply on advertisement position Ref.
