NZQA Expiring unit standard Title Empty street litter bins Level 2 1580 version 7 Page 1 of 3 Credits Purpose 2 This unit standard is for people working in the cleaning industry or wishing to work for local authorities. People credited with this standard are able to; prepare to empty street litter bins; and remove rubbish from street litter bins. Classification Cleaning and Caretaking > Cleaning Skills Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Competence demonstrated during assessment against this standard must comply with the requirements of: Employment Relations Act 2000; Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992; Resource Management Act 1991; Transport (Vehicular Traffic Road Closure) Regulations 1965; Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management, Transit New Zealand. 2 Equipment and cleaning agents must be used in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. 3 Definition Industry best practice refers to any enterprise and/or establishment requirements, practices, policy, procedures, methods and protocols which are in accordance with applicable legislation, regulations and New Zealand Standards. Outcomes and evidence requirements Outcome 1 Prepare to empty street litter bins. Evidence requirements 1.1 Equipment is either selected individually or from single station equipment and is clean and in working condition. New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2016 NZQA Expiring unit standard 1.2 Personal protective equipment (PPE) suitable for the task is selected. Range 1.3 high-viz safety vest, heavy duty gloves, overalls, wet weather gear, footwear. Route is planned to complete work in scheduled time. Range 1.4 1580 version 7 Page 2 of 3 no excessive travel, no excessive back-tracking. Cleaning solution is prepared in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Outcome 2 Remove rubbish from street litter bins. Evidence requirements 2.1 PPE is worn at all times during cleaning operations. 2.2 Bin rubbish is emptied directly into rubbish collection without spillage or damage. 2.3 Interior of bin is washed with solution to produce a visibly clean appearance. 2.4 Bin liners are replaced if required. 2.5 Damaged bins are replaced in accordance with industry best practice. 2.6 Rubbish bags or containers are placed or emptied into rubbish collection vehicle without spillage or damage. 2.7 Rubbish is disposed of at a designated site. 2.8 Equipment is cleaned, checked and stored in accordance with industry best practice. This unit standard is expiring. Assessment against the standard must take place by the last date for assessment set out below.
