Maska is a nonprofit organization for publishing,
production (performances, interdisciplinary and
visual art works), education and research. It is
oganized through three sections: Maska
Publications, Maska Productions and Maska
Symposium. Maska's theoretical, critical and
artistic activities are involved in contemporary
art and theory, research, experimental
performing practices, interdisciplinary art and
critical theory.
Maska Publications
Performing arts magazine Maska, book series
TRANSformacije and Mediakcije, are the
foundations of the Maska publishing
programme. The field of reflection comprises
the broadest area of contemporary performing
arts, from theatre, contemporary dance and new
ballet to performance, multimedia and newmedia art.
Maska, Journal for Performing Arts
Maska magazine is published in three double
issues a year, each issue dedicated to one specific
topic. In recent issues the authors have thus
focused upon the unbearable lightness of artistic
freedom, the politics of presenting, the
performativity of political protest,
the
postdramatic condition, dance and politics,
vision and visuality, theatrical strategies,
performance education, new European drama,
genetic art, dramaturgy of dance, theory on
stage, eroticism, new Eastern art and theory, the
inventory of the nineties, the pleasure of the
automaton, Gestus, etc. Apart from articles
related to chosen topics, the magazine also
includes interviews with artists and theoreticians,
reviews of performances and books, articles on
the hidden phenomena in contemporary
performing arts, research findings etc.
The TRANSformacije Book Series
Book series TRANSformacije is profiled as a
field of contemporary reflection on performing
arts, including works by Slovene authors as well
as translations of distinguished titles in the field.
TRANSformacije provide the terminological and
conceptual frame for reflection on contemporary
performing arts. Among latest titles are: Bojana

Book series Mediakcije is profiled as a field of
critical writings on media culture and society.
The first title is New Watchdogs, by Serge
Halimi, followed by Naomi Klein’s No logo),
Monopoli (by Sandra B. Hrvatin and Lenart J.
Kučić.
Maska Productions
Maska Productions produces performances and
other artistic events by innovative, exploring
artists as well as first projects of the youngest
generation (Emil Hrvatin, Irena Tomažin, Alix
Eynaudi, Alice Chauchat, Magda Reiter, Rok
Vevar, Mare Bulc). With our productions we
were on tour in numerous European countries,
USA, Asia and Africa. Our latest productions
include: Pupilija papa Pupilo and the Pupilceks –
reconstruction, Caprice (Re)lapsed and The
latest egoistic performance.
Maska also produces new media and visual
artworks, among latest Zone C and The Refugee
Camp for the First World Citizens, shown in
Europe and USA.
Maska Symposium
Maska Symposium's basic project is the Seminar
of Contemporary Performing Arts. Seminar is all
year programme, with lectures by internationally
aclaimmed scholars, artists and writers. Other
activities include organisation of lectures, talks,
debates, workshops etc. We organized several
conferences on theory and contemporary art
(Fiction Reconstructed, Biotechnology,
Phuilosophy, Sex, Postdramatic Condition …) as
well as public debates on cultural politics. Our
lecturers and students are involved in many
European conferences and seminars.



