basketballpaisley Community Coach
Specific Responsibilities
Corporate






To maximise participation in basketball in the Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire Areas.
Participate on an on-going and regular basis in the practical delivery and operation of
basketballpaisley in relevant areas to support both your own and other teams, and, to
maintain regular communication with key partners.
Promote the Health and Safety of employees and customers ensuring compliance with
basketballpaisley’s policies, procedures and relevant legislation.
Liaise with relevant external service providers, funding partners and other relevant
organisations.
Adopt a flexible attitude to your role at all times undertaking activities that assist the Club in
maintaining a competitive advantage.
Undertake any other duties as directed commensurate with the job outline and grade.
Key Accountabilities





Increase playing participation in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.
The on-going support and development to basketballpaisley’s youth programme.
Work in partnership with a range of agencies to raise the profile of basketball in the local
community, engaging with Primary and Secondary Schools in the areas mentioned above
through ‘Renfrewshire and East Schools Basketball Association’ (RESBA)
Develop and deliver an annual plan of high quality coaching sessions to associated cluster
schools and community groups.
Ensure a quality and professional approach while engaging the community.
Key Performance Area
Increase Participation


Ensure links to local cluster primary and secondary schools to create/extend opportunities to
play basketball through inclusive programmes within the club’s junior sections for girls and
boys
Organise, coordinate and deliver programmes and events/festivals to promote
basketballpaisley’s recognised ‘Friday Night Superleague’ and recruit young people to the
game.

Support the development of girls basketball in the local area.
Partnership Working


Work with the Superleague’s Technical Coordinator, basketballscotland’s Club development
Officer and Regional Development Officer and club representatives to ensure development
plan is linked to Regional Development Plan and club pathway.
Work with Active School Coordinators and PE staff to ensure a strong pathway between local
primary and secondary schools and club.
Volunteer Development

Support the recruitment and development of volunteers for basketballpaisley within the
club’s volunteer structure.
Coaching


Deliver high quality coaching sessions in schools and community groups.
Identify and access coach scholarship opportunities
Monitoring and Evaluation, Marketing and Communication




Record baseline data on club(s) and school participation.
Record and monitor the number of schools benefitting from basketballpaisley’s community
programme.
Set up an effective reporting system on relevant stats i.e numbers of new players, satellite
clubs and report to basketballscotland and basketballpaisley’s committee on a regular basis.
Ensure effective links with local press to increase the basketball profile in community.

Qualifications/Experience and Training
Experience of sports development and coaching within a basketball environment.
Evidence of continued professional development in the area of health and fitness
Minimum basketballscotland level 2 or UKCC Level 2 Basketball Coaching Qualification is Essential
The ability to transport yourself effectively throughout the region.
Competent in the use of IT, including Microsoft Office applications.

Duration
The post is on a fixed term contract until the 31st July 2013
Salary
£9.50 per hour with a guaranteed 10 hours of work per week.
Place of work
The employee is required to carry out work based on the club’s location, but will
have an office base and workstation available.
