This workshop is designed to build on existing teaching and learning skills. It also offers a
number of practical exercises that will help doctors learn more effectively within a range of
different situations.
The aims of the seminar are to:
 Understand the necessary skills and techniques to improve learning

Interview Skills
This is a half-day practical workshop which covers the key aspects of the job application
process. It aims to provide trainee doctors with a thorough insight into how they should
complete an application form that really stands out from the rest, construct a robust CV,
present an outstanding portfolio of supporting documentation, and prepare for an
interview. Delegates will have the opportunity to practice interview techniques and will
receive constructive feedback on their performance from their peers and an experienced
trainer.
The aims of this workshop are to:

Be provided with a structured framework to help you get the job you want in the
NHS

Gain an insight into how recruitment and selection operates for doctors

Understand how to market yourself in a highly competitive environment


This workshop is designed to build on the knowledge and skills gained through the more basic
communication skills programme. It contains more advanced practical exercises to help you
communicate more effectively with colleagues and patients, particularly in difficult situations.
The aims of this workshop are to:

Review the barriers to effective communication and to consider practical solutions

Assess individual communication style through self-audit and to consider strengths and
weaknesses

Consider good and not so-good-practice through the analysis of scenarios

workshop will help delegates to understand their own working and leadership styles as well
as team dynamics.

From Foundation to Specialty
Day 1 – Clinical Governance and Facilitation Skills
The first day of this two-day workshop focuses mostly on individual knowledge and skills,
such as clinical governance (and its importance in achieving the best possible clinical
outcome for patients), time management, and how to facilitate learning for yourself and
others.

Introduction and Objectives

Considering the core values of the NHS and how clinical governance reflects these values

Understand the national framework for defining, delivering and monitoring clinical
governance

Appreciate the importance of patient safety and clinical risk management issues in
achieving the best clinical outcomes in all care settings

Link clinical governance and principles of accountability to continuing improvement in
healthcare delivery

Gain and understanding of time management

Understand the necessary skills and techniques to improve learning


Day 2 – Leadership, Managing People and Building Teams
The second day of this workshop looks at how you, as an individual, work with others, and
includes sessions on leadership skills and dealing with difficult situations.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have already taken the Leadership, Managing People and Building
Teams or Teaching, Presentation and Facilitation Skills course, it would be unnecessary
to take this course as most of the content is repeated.

I declare that I will give 4 weeks written notice if unable to attend; otherwise there will be a 75%
administrative fee.
I understand that if I fall into Groups 1 or 2, no refund will be given and I will be charged an additional
£120 (ie £30+£120 = the 75% administrative fee) unless my place can be allocated to someone else.
I understand that if I fall into Group 3 a 75% administrative fee will be taken from my payment if I do
