JOB TITLE: Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist with special responsibilities for research (psychology department) LOCATION: Icanho, The Suffolk Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre GRADE: Livability Grade F HOURS: 22.5 hours per week 2. PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To assist with and support the planning and development of a service wide ethos of research and publication. To develop and establish a programme of psychological research and publication from Icanho. To work autonomously within professional guidelines. To establish good working links with, and to act as a highly specialist resource in respect of ABI services to, the wider professional community. To assist with and support the planning and development of the service by providing advice about the psychological literature and its implications for service development. 3. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Service Provision: D:\106745696.doc To provide highly specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to Icanho based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex psychological data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s psychological problems. To work with individuals, groups, and families. To exercise full autonomous professional responsibility for the psychological assessment, treatment and discharge of clients. To participate in interdisciplinary and multiagency meetings concerning the delivery and development of clinical services for clients. To provide highly specialist psychological consultation, supervision and support to other team members about the psychological management of Icanho clients. To provide highly specialist psychological consultation, supervision and support to the Rehabilitation Team Coordinators / Clinical Service Leads about the psychological management of clients with complex needs. To provide highly specialist consultation, assessment and treatment to clients with complex needs. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management. Leadership and Management: To be responsible for the development of a programme of high quality psychological research within Icanho. To provide highly specialist consultation, supervision and support to other team members to develop an ethos and practice of service wide publication and research. To advise management about resources available to the service to develop an ethos of research and publication. To exercise responsibility and professional judgement for the appropriate and safe use of specialist psychological equipment including the appropriate systems of stock control. To advise and participate in the recruitment of psychology staff at Icanho. To be involved, as appropriate and in conjunction with manager, in the recruitment and selection of staff in other disciplines. D:\106745696.doc Strategy, policy & service development: To participate as a senior clinician in the development of a high quality, responsive and accessible service for clients, their carers and families within Icanho, including advising the manager and rehabilitation team co-ordinators / clinical service leads on those aspects of the service where psychological matters need addressing. To initiate and participate in service developments and projects within the Icanho Service. To take the lead in maintaining the high quality psychological research with the Icanho Service. Education and training To develop and take part in educational sessions for carers, families and other services and agencies as required. To ensure that all members of the clinical team have access to a psychologically based framework for understanding and care of clients through the provision of advice and consultation and the dissemination of psychological research and theory. To receive regular clinical professional supervision from an expert with appropriate experience and, where appropriate other senior professional colleagues in line with British Psychological Society (BPS) guidelines. To participate in appraisal, case reviews and peer support. To take an active role in the process of CPD, to include maintaining a personal CPD log. To participate in the provision of post-qualification training (CPD) to recently qualified clinical psychologists. To continue to develop skills in the area of professional pre- and post-qualification training and clinical supervision in accordance with BPS guidelines. To gain additional highly specialist experience, knowledge and skills relevant to clinical psychology and neuropsychology in line with the needs and BPS policy on CPD. Communication: To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, highly complex information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients and to monitor progress during the course of both uni- and multi and interdisciplinary care. To ensure a high standard of communication with carers, families, local mental health services, other agencies and PCT’s involved with the service. To maintain excellent communication with other members of Icanho staff. Administration: To maintain the highest standard of clinical record keeping. To ensure that your psychology reports are written in a timely manner that reflects highly specialist knowledge and skill. To use computer based tools of analysis, spread sheets, data bases and statistical packages as necessary. To ensure accurate information for data collection Resources: To be responsible for maintaining an up to date knowledge of research resources within Icanho. Research and development: To be aware of relevant development and research in the field of brain injury rehabilitation locally, nationally and internationally. To support the development of research within the psychology department and within the wider service of Icanho. To use theory, evidence based literature and research to support evidence based practice in their work. To engage in practice development, evaluation and audit activities to promote evidence based practice. To use appropriate outcome measures in order to evaluate the effectiveness and quality of psychology provision. To provide advice to other professionals as appropriate on research design and methodology. General: To comply with all Livability Health and Safety policies in order to ensure that a safe working environment is maintained for clients, carers staff and visitors. To be aware of current legislation, e.g. Protection of Vulnerable Adults, The Disability Discrimination Act and their relevance to practice. 5.
